Enterprise-wide, this position will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT), Motor Carrier Safety (MOT) and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) regulations. This role involves developing and implementing policies, conducting audits and inspections, training staff, and maintaining comprehensive compliance records.

Responsibilities:

Perform essential job functions of the Safety Manager including but not limited to following, promoting and enforcing all labor laws, safety policies, practices, and procedures to ensure safe working conditions and behaviors are maintained. Assist with safety investigations and corrective actions related to safety hazards and/or incidents. Conduct regular site safety audits. Monitor and ensure company-wide compliance with all applicable Department of Transportation (DOT), Maintenance of Traffic (MOT), and Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) regulations across all operating states. Develop, implement, and update transportation safety and compliance policies and procedures for CDL drivers and non-CDL drivers in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Conduct regular audits, inspections, and investigations of driver files, vehicle maintenance records, logs, and incident reports to identify and resolve compliance gaps. Oversee driver qualification files, ensuring all required documentation—including licenses, medical certifications, and motor vehicle records—are accurate and current. Lead and document investigations of transportation-related incidents; identify root causes and implement corrective actions to reduce recurrence and improve safety outcomes. Design and deliver training programs for drivers and supervisors on DOT, MOT, and CDL requirements, ensuring ongoing education and awareness of compliance responsibilities. Prepare and submit regulatory reports and filings and serve as the primary point of contact for DOT audits, roadside inspections, and agency inquiries. Monitor company CSA scores and other safety performance indicators; recommend and implement strategies to improve results and reduce risk exposure. Partner with fleet management to ensure vehicle maintenance, inspections, and documentation meet all safety and regulatory standards. Stay current on industry best practices and emerging regulations; make recommendations to enhance company compliance and operational safety. Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in Safety, Transportation Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience managing DOT compliance or working in a transportation safety or regulatory role. In-depth knowledge of DOT, MOT, and CDL regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply federal and state transportation laws. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively share information across teams and stakeholders. Highly organized with strong record-keeping skills and attention to detail in managing compliance documentation. Demonstrated ability to train and influence others, communicate safety expectations, and reinforce a strong safety culture. Working independently, managing ambiguous situations, multiple priorities, and making sound decisions in a fast-paced environment must be a strong characteristic. Proficient in computer and technology skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and mobile devices. Ability to travel up to 15% of the time to provide hands-on compliance and safety support across multiple locations.
