Environmental Health and Safety Manager Job Description This position is a crucial component of the Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Department. The role involves conducting hazard assessments, implementing risk mitigation measures, reporting safety metrics, and supporting the development and execution of safety and environmental programs. The position fosters a positive safety culture and ensures compliance with safety and environmental regulations through training, auditing, and collaboration with various departments. Responsibilities Assist in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of EH&S programs and policies. Utilize the safety management process to identify hazards and implement controls. Support the EH&S department with safety and facility-related tasks during emergency preparation and response. Aid in conducting incident investigations. Collaborate with EH&S and Facilities during workplace repairs, installations, or routine inspections of building systems. Develop job/task hazard analyses. Gather safety information and shadow team members to assess risks. Perform routine preventative maintenance on safety systems such as monthly visual inspection of fire extinguishers and weekly visual inspection and operation of emergency eye wash and showers. Ensure compliance with OSHA’s Hazard Communication standard. Implement safety programs to reduce work-related injuries. Maintain the chemical inventory for the entire facility. Oversee hazardous waste disposal, including the physical transfer of chemical waste to outside storage areas. Track non-hazardous and uniform hazardous materials manifests. Act as the emergency coordinator for hazardous waste incidents. Perform other duties as assigned. Essential Skills Working knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local EHS regulations. Demonstrated understanding of health and safety program regulations. Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel. Proficient in presenting complex risk findings and making recommendations both verbally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills, customer service orientation, active listening skills, and organizational abilities. Capability to produce clear and concise written reports. Sufficient mobility to access and operate in all areas of the facility, including tight, high, or enclosed spaces. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in environmental science, industrial hygiene, safety, health physics, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in environmental health and safety, industrial hygiene, or occupational health fields preferred. Work Environment The work environment involves operating in various areas of the facility, including tight, high, or enclosed spaces. The role requires sufficient mobility to access and operate in all parts of the facility, ensuring adherence to safety standards and procedures.
