We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Environmental Health and Safety Manager to lead our environmental initiatives, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and promoting best practices in sustainability across our operations. The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental compliance policies and programs. This role focuses on ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, managing environmental risks, and promoting practices that reduce environmental impact. The ideal candidate will be proactive in identifying hazards, developing solutions, and continuously improving environmental standards within the organization while simultaneously managing emergency response events.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations, including federal, state, and local requirements, as well as responsibility for overseeing the activities related to the Company’s environmental permits, programs, and policies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Environmental Permitting, Recordkeeping, & Reporting:
Ensure the organization obtains and maintains necessary environmental permits and authorizations for operations, and that all regulatory requirements are met. Complete and maintain accurate records of environmental compliance, including UST testing records, SPCC Plan requirements, EPCRA Tier II/TRI reporting, waste management and disposal, air emissions tracking, and environmental audits. Prepare reports for regulatory agencies as required.
Risk Management & Hazard Mitigation:
Assess environmental hazards and risks within the organization and develop strategies for mitigating environmental impact, including air and water pollution, hazardous waste, and sustainability concerns.
Policy Development & Implementation:
Create, update, and enforce environmental policies and procedures that align with regulatory and legal requirements and best industry practices.
Environmental Audits & Inspections:
Conduct regular site inspections and environmental audits to monitor compliance with environmental permits and programs, identify areas of improvement, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Sustainability Initiatives:
Lead initiatives aimed at improving sustainability, reducing energy consumption, minimizing waste, and lowering the organization’s overall environmental footprint.
Training & Education:
Develop and deliver training programs for employees to related to the Company’s environmental permits and programs and promote a culture of environmental responsibility.
Incident Investigation & Reporting:
Investigate environmental incidents and near misses to determine root causes, develop corrective actions, and ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements. Manage mitigation and cleanup activities as it relates to emergency response. Collaboration with
Cross-functional Teams:
Work closely with operations, facility management, and other departments to integrate environmental compliance into day-to-day activities and ensure alignment with company goals.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay current with environmental regulations and industry trends, recommending improvements and adopting new strategies or technologies to enhance environmental compliance and sustainability.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience in environmental management or a related field, preferably in the industrial sector.
Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of multi-media environmental regulations including CAA, CWA, RCRA, SPCC, CERCLA, EPCRA, and TSCA, as well as pollution control practices and environmental impact assessments.
DOT Hazardous materials regulation:
Basic understanding of regulatory compliance as it relates to DOT Hazardous Materials transportation preferred
Skills:
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
Certifications:
Environmental certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) or similar certifications are a plus.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and data collection tools. Familiarity with sustainability reporting tools and environmental management systems (EMS).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to conduct site inspections, audits, and environmental assessments in both office and field environments. Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 20 pounds. Ability to work in varied environmental conditions, including outdoor settings.
