ABOUT THE ROLE A
rapidly growing food production company is seeking a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manage r to oversee food safety, quality standards, and compliance across all production lines. This role plays a critical part in upholding high product standards, implementing food safety strategies, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Strengthen and oversee quality control systems to ensure all production batches meet established recipe and brand standards. Develop and maintain food safety SOPs for all ingredients and finished goods flowing in and out of the facility, including temperature control, shelf life management, and product rotation. Establish and train on safety procedures for the proper use of kitchen and production equipment. Support R D efforts involving new supplier vetting, ingredient specifications, and recipe testing. Draft and enforce product specification documents and supplier standards for all raw materials. Implement robust traceability systems to link production batches to supplier and farm-level lot codes. Design and implement preventative measures to minimize foreign material risks. Coordinate with internal teams and outside partners on product recalls or withdrawals when necessary. Ensure all product lines comply with food safety regulations, company policies, and packaging and labeling requirements. Conduct routine quality assurance audits across all production areas. Serve as a liaison with retail or distribution partners when needed, including during product evaluations, audits, and issue resolution. Lead initiatives to improve product execution, reduce defects, and enhance production efficiency. Support company-wide adherence to quality policies by developing and disseminating training materials and updates. Establish KPIs and metrics related to productivity, turnaround times, compliance, and quality performance. Attend cross-functional meetings to discuss quality updates and opportunities for improvement. Provide leadership and mentorship to the quality assurance team and collaborate with management on staff performance. Promote and uphold a clean, safe, and values-driven work environment.
SUPPORTING FUNCTIONS
Maintain cleanliness and organization in all workspaces. Safely lift and move materials up to 50 lbs; push carts up to 100 lbs. Uphold strict confidentiality around proprietary recipes and SOPs.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of food manufacturing or foodservice QA experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. In-depth knowledge of food safety practices, food microbiology, and product handling. Experience with food manufacturing processes, packaging, procurement, and logistics. Proficiency managing multiple projects and delivering results with minimal supervision. Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (preferred). Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills. Valid Manager’s ServSafe Food Handler Certification. Experience with training and food safety platforms (e.g., Alchemy, FoodReady). Up-to-date understanding of
FDA, USDA, OSHA
regulations. Supervisory experience and internal/external audit participation required. Excellent organizational and analytical skills. Comfort with math calculations and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or Google Workspace.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work may involve exposure to cold, heat, moisture, and moving equipment. Must be physically able to stand, walk, bend, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs repeatedly. Required to use protective gear such as gloves, goggles, and belts depending on tasks. Regular use of hands, vision, and communication for detailed work.
