The Harris County School District (HCSD) seeks a Strategic and Safety Communications Director to lead district-wide communications that reflect our mission of ensuring an excellent education for every child in Harris County. This role is central to advancing HCSD’s strategic goals—particularly in Stakeholder Engagement, Culture and Climate, and Operations—by building trust, transparency, and timely communication across our schools and community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with HCSD’s strategic priorities.
  • Serve as the district’s lead communicator during emergencies, ensuring accurate, timely, and reassuring messaging to all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with school leaders, public safety officials, and community partners to support safe and effective crisis response.
  • Manage internal and external communications across platforms, including press releases, social media, newsletters, and the district website.
  • Monitor public sentiment and media coverage to manage the district’s reputation and foster community trust proactively.
Qualifications :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in strategic or crisis communications, preferably in education, public safety, or government.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and public speaking skills.
  • Proven ability to lead under pressure and communicate clearly during emergencies.
  • Familiarity with Georgia’s emergency communication protocols and school safety initiatives is a plus.
Preferred Attributes:
  • Experience supporting family and community engagement goals, safe environments, and social-emotional well-being.
  • Certification in emergency management (e.g., FEMA, NIMS).
  • Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.

Full-time Pay:

$80,000.00

  • $105,558.
