The Health & Safety Services Manager plays a critical leadership role in overseeing organizational health and safety practices at Sherwood. As a Registered Nurse (RN), this individual brings clinical expertise to the forefront while managing risk, compliance, training, and health-related protocols across programs. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position is responsible for ensuring high standards of care, maintaining compliance with state and federal health regulations, supporting staff training, and acting as a resource to families and team members. This is a hands-on and highly collaborative role, designed to support the well-being of our school and adult day service community while also advancing Sherwood’s commitment to safety, transparency, and organizational excellence. Key Responsibilities Health Services Leadership Deliver direct nursing care to those that we serve as needed. Create and manage Individual Health Plans (IHPs), Emergency Care Plans (ECPs), and Seizure Action Plans for students with medical needs. Dispense and document medication administration following best-practice protocols. Oversee the implementation of medical screenings (vision, hearing, dental, etc.). Maintain accurate and confidential student health records using the organization’s electronic health record (EHR) system. Risk Management & Compliance Manage health-related compliance including MSDS documentation, Worker’s Compensation claims, and OSHA standards. Coordinate responses to medical incidents, exposures, and staff/student injuries. Partner with leadership to assess and mitigate health and safety risks across campus and facilities. Maintain and update policies related to infectious diseases, allergies, seizure protocol, and other medical complexities. Training & Education Provide health and safety training for staff, including CPR, first aid, medication administration, and infection control. Train designated personnel on the use of the EHR and internal protocols related to the nurse’s office and emergency procedures. Serve as a resource to faculty, families, and administrators on health-related matters. Administrative Duties Lead internal communication efforts on public health updates and organizational safety bulletins. Contribute to policy development for student and staff health procedures. Collaborate with leadership and HR on Workers’ Compensation case management and return-to-work procedures. Other duties as directed related to the Nursing Office and community health.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications Current RN license in the State of Missouri (in good standing) Minimum 3 years of nursing experience (school or community health preferred) CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (Instructor-level preferred) Strong understanding of chronic illness management in children and adults Proficient in the use and configuration of Electronic Health Record systems Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and respond quickly to emergencies Preferred Qualifications Experience in a school, nonprofit, or special education environment Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN); Master’s Degree preferred Knowledge of public health guidelines and regulatory reporting requirements Familiarity with the administration of MARS and health documentation systems Ability to lead and influence through policy and training initiatives Core Competencies Compassionate, trauma-informed approach to care Discretion and integrity with confidential health data High attention to detail in record keeping and compliance Calm and confident decision-making in urgent situations Collaborative mindset with a leadership presence
