This opportunity is a Social Services Supervisor position for the Safety Supervisor/Team Lead, Adoption Supervisor/Team Lead, Licensure Supervisor/Team Lead or Wellbeing/Permanency Supervisor/Team Lead within MS Department of Child Protection Services. The Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (MDCPS) is committed to protecting and nurturing Mississippi’s at-risk children and families. MDCPS offers a variety of positions statewide, including social work positions providing case management services and working with potential foster families, supervisor positions providing clinical and administrative support, and agency support positions such as policy development, human resources, information technology, program management, training, and budgeting/finance. About the Position
This position is advertised for Statewide with the Safety Unit, the candidate will be housed in the county closest to their location.

  • Provides supervision, direction, guidance, and feedback to Social Service Specialist (Investigation Specialist),
  • Serve as mentor, trainer, and coach to staff,
  • Exercises good judgment in practice as demonstrated through the adherence of agency policy and procedures and federal/state guidelines to support decision making,
  • Ensures timely screening, assignment, and completion of investigations through the use of data and structured weekly staffings with assigned staff,
  • Make recommendations for adequate staffing,
  • Reviews and approves investigations timely, including ensuring thorough documentation of supporting information,
  • Ensure safety of youth involved in safety plans,
  • Promote positive well-being,
  • Assess each investigation against established investigative procedures including interviews with victims, perpetrators and/or staff, assess the need for follow up and appropriate referrals for CAC or other collaborative services/partnerships,
  • Coordinate with appropriate LE,
  • Assess weekly progress in each investigation for timely, accurate and quality documentation and progress through the use of structured case staffings,
  • Participate in internal and external meetings as needed,
  • Participates in Supervisor Support Staffing’s according to protocol,
  • Serves as supervisor on-call after hours (including weekends and holidays) as scheduled,
  • Communicates with direct supervisor, in a timely manner, regarding issues that arise with screening or investigation,
  • Recognizes and inform supervisor of potential concerns, performance, or problems; and prepares for discussion with supervisor to identify solutions when concerns arise,
  • Identify trends and uses data to plan the workday,
  • Promotes commitment, team spirit, and inter agency collaboration (ex. assisting beyond routine geographic scope as needed; coverage for colleagues when needed; decision sharing regarding unit needs),
  • Set team goals that promotes teamwork, accountability, and quality outcomes,
  • Manage caseloads using available data,
  • Maintain up to date outlook calendar,
  • Maintain up to date required training (CEU’s if licensed),
  • Positively supports initiatives and program requests set forth by the agency,
  • Performs other duties as assigned “The incumbents receive training related to job content, and must pass a comprehensive test prior to continued employment and/or advancement.

Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of experience, and 1-3 years of supervisory experience. Appointing authority may require a Master’s Degree and/or social worker’s license.

Agency preferred qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in social work, social services, psychology, educational psychology, sociology, nursing, criminal justice, counseling, marriage and family therapy, family studies, or a related field. and 3-5 years of experience, and 1-3 years of supervisory experience. Appointing authority may require Master’s Degree. Will also require Social Work License in state of Mississippi.
