Job Description

This position is open only to current NCDOL employees. OSH District 2 This position reports to the West Bureau Chief of OSH Compliance and is located in the Charlotte, NC OSH Field Office. Responsibilities include planning, directing and managing the daily operations and activities of safety and health compliance officers. The position will provide administrative and technical supervision over safety and health compliance officers in the areas of: accident investigations, complaint and referral inspections, general scheduled safety compliance inspections, special emphasis compliance programs, case file management, education and training, public speaking, equipment operation maintenance, legal interpretations, engineering and design of protective safety systems, hazard abatement assistance, and research/development of new technologies and procedures. Assurance of subordinate employees’ work quality, effectiveness and efficiency are key roles for this position. In addition, this position requires strong management skills, excellent speaking and written skills as well as a high level of knowledge in both safety and health. Selected candidate must have a valid driver’s license and live within 50 miles of the Charlotte OSHA Field Office or relocate within the first 30 days of accepting the position at the employee’s own expense. Knowledge of safety and health principles and practices is required. Employee must have a thorough knowledge of the state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and safety and health standards governing North Carolina work sites. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, state and federal officials, and the general public. Employee must have the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form and be able to train and supervise other employees. Valid driver’s license required. Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health, industrial management, industrial hygiene, biology, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of progressive experience in occupational safety and health field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
