This role will be instrumental in building and championing our commitment to workplace safety, reducing workplace injuries, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations. Summary This position will be responsible for managing the safety and risk associated with Rock Spring’s construction projects and company operations in the South Carolina region. The Safety Manager will cover multiple job sites to lead safety on job sites that may not have full time coordinators. The Manager will provide assistance with investigations and managing injured worker care, help promote positive relationship with Owners and General Contractors, and conduct or assist with onsite training when needed. The Safety Manager role is predominantly an in-field job, requiring about 80% construction-site presence and 20% office work but will vary based on demands at the time. The Safety Manager reports directly to the Regional Safety Director. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Job-Specific Document Management o Work with Safety team to Support Safety Coordinators all job-specific safety paperwork submittals in a timely manner: AHA/JHAs, Safety Manuals, required letters, SSSPs, SDSs, and any other safety related programs and policies that need to be written.
- Job Site Support o Meet with Safety Coordinators each week to understand job-site status, plan job assignments and determine job-site meeting/walk attendance schedule. o Be knowledgeable about active jobs, ensure badging as necessary to be on site as needed. o Build relationships with on-site General Contractor safety personnel
- Incident investigation and required Workers Comp follow up o Conduct incident investigations as needed (depending on severity of incident.) o Prepare incident reports o Work with Safety team, including Directors, and HR to mitigate risk, report, follow up and maintain paperwork
- Subcontractor Support o Support our labor subcontractors as needed for jobs with requirements beyond their capabilities.
- PPE & Safety Equipment Management o Understand current inventory of PPE and safety equipment and place new orders through Purchasing team
- Lead Safety Culture o Implement plans and maintain existing processes that create a strong Safety culture at Rock Spring
- Support/encourage individuals on the Safety team
- Help to develop, implement and enforce safety policies and procedures
- Provide proactive leadership to team they support by creating an environment of learning, mentoring, and sharing knowledge
- Maintain a positive relationship with owners and general contractors Qualifications 5 years construction safety experience (could substitute some experience with a degree).
Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (preferred) OSHA 30 CPR/1st Aid CHST Additional trainer certifications Physical Requirements Ability to work on construction sites, including climbing ladders/scaffolding, walking, and lifting materials as needed. Must be able to see, hear, and communicate clearly to identify and address safety concerns. Work Environment Combination of office and fieldwork, with potential exposure to various weather conditions and jobsite hazards. Regular travel may be required to multiple sites or locations.
