General Summary:
Under general supervision and provides emergency and safety services. Responsible for providing and
promoting a safe and secure educational/work environment for students, faculty, staff and parents.
Assists in the planning, direction, and oversight of district safety/security programs. When necessary,
assists with search and seizure, emergency readiness, and conflict management. Plans and conducts
investigations to support a wide variety of both criminal and administrative proceedings. Provides
safety and emergency response training as needed.
Essential Functions
Supports and upholds the mission, vision and strategic goals of the Cherokee County School District
Oversees the SRO program and effectively interacts, communicates and collaborates with all stakeholders
Serves as the liaison with Local, State and Federal law enforcement agencies
Coordinates the district Crossing Guard program
Assists in the direction, planning, coordination, and implementation of district safety/security and emergency response programs
Responsible for annual updates of the District and School Emergency Procedure Manual
Plans and assigns security for home High School and Middle School sporting events
Assists principals and district administration with school security drills and issues as needed
Assists with security planning for new facility construction if needed
Responds to service calls and determines appropriate course of action
Acts as a first responder to fire and safety incidents
Assists in the behavior threat assessment process
Assists in the development and implementation of the Reunification Method (SRM)
Responsible for monitoring campus facilities
Makes recommendations to District Administration for the improvement of public safety and crime prevention
Maintains current knowledge of current issues and best practices in law enforcement, public safety, and campus safety
Projects a positive and professional image to the school district’s community
Reviews school and district safety/security plans and revises as needed. Reviews security programs including evacuation plans at various district facilities and makes recommendations as needed
Responds and directs district personnel during and in anticipation of bomb threats, natural disasters, inclement weather, and other emergency situations
Coordinates and arranges physical security for large gatherings such as sporting events, theatre performances, graduations, etc. Proactively engages school communities in developing safety priorities, defining roles and responsibilities, building capability, and creating systems of accountability to ensure a safe and effective school climate
Manages email monitoring system to alert administrators of concerns related to student correspondence and internet history
Coordinates and manages the implementation and use of the anonymous tip line system
Manages incident management system for the District and serves as the contact for any issues related to the system
Manages the district SafeSchools information
Performs other related duties assigned by your supervisor and/or Superintendent
Qualifications:
High school diploma (college degree preferred)
Commissioned police officer through the SC Criminal Justice Academy (preferred)
Minimum of Five years’ experience in law enforcement, security or public safety
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Excellent written communication skills
Experience in administration and supervision preferred
Length of Contract:
240 Days (12 Months)
