Garners participation in OHSJP’s statewide campaigns from the law enforcement community; provides technical assistance to participating law enforcement agencies. Provides guidance and technical assistance to Law Enforcement Network (LEN) Coordinators regarding network activities/events and assists with their implementation. Manages and coordinates the annual Law Enforcement Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Challenge. Coordinates special highway safety-related events and training that involve law enforcement personnel. Manages and/or coordinates other special projects as assigned. Regularly attends law enforcement operation events (e.g., public safety checkpoints, network meetings) of the SCLEN. Provides assistance to law enforcement officers in making custodial arrests at such events as necessary. Provides subsequent testimony in court as necessary. Performs law enforcement duties during times of critical incidents, whether natural or manmade crisis events requiring sworn personnel response. Required to assist the Highway Patrol with emergencies as required. Prepares Employee Performance Management System (EPMS) Evaluations and Planning Stages for employees within LESS section. Performs EPMS reviews by established deadlines. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements State Minimum Requirements A bachelor’s degree and relevant program experience. Agency Minimum Requirements A bachelor’s degree and ten (10) years experience in law enforcement, of which five (5) years must be in traffic law enforcement, or an acceptable equivalent in job experience approved by the State Office of Human Resources. Law Enforcement Certification required. A minimum of five (5) years of managerial experience required. Additional Requirements Considerable knowledge of and /or experience with traffic law enforcement administration, strategies, training, and equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of state and local law enforcement agencies. Must have a Law Enforcement Certification in accordance with Section 23-23-40 of the Code of Laws of South Carolina 1976 or meet recertification requirements of Proviso 108.19 if returning to work twelve months or more after retirement. Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills and be able to speak effectively in a public setting. Must be able to effectively use computer software and audio-visual equipment. Must successfully complete appropriate training and receive certain certifications as identified by supervisor. Supervisory experience required. Experience in managing major programs. Experience in planning special events. Additional Comments Employee should be able to work under minimal supervision. Employee should be able to manage time/tasks and meet deadlines with very limited supervision. In-state travel required. Occasional out-of-state travel may also be required. Must be able to effectively balance multiple priorities.
