What you’ll do:

Compliance and Risk Management:

Conduct thorough compliance reviews and risk assessments, detailing the methodologies used, frequency, and specific areas covered (e.g., machinery safety, chemical handling).

HSE Program Development and Implementation:

Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive HSE programs, policies, and procedures, including the process for creating new programs, updating existing ones, and ensuring employee understanding and adherence. Comply with all GMI policies and safety standards.

Incident Management and Analysis:

Investigate incidents meticulously, perform root cause analysis using established techniques (ex. Root Cause Analysis), and identify corrective actions with specific timelines and responsible parties.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure strict compliance with all applicable HSE regulations and company directives, including specific regulations (e.g., OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard), methods for tracking changes in regulations, and procedures for addressing non-compliance.

Facility Inspections and Monitoring:

Conduct regular facility HSE inspections, outlining the inspection checklist, frequency, and follow-up procedures, and oversee health/environmental monitoring programs, including specific monitoring parameters and reporting requirements.

Stakeholder Engagement and Advice:

Advise on required safety certifications, detailing the certification process, associated costs, and renewal requirements, and maintain proactive relationships with stakeholders, including employees, management, regulatory agencies, and customers, outlining communication strategies and methods for addressing concerns.

Reporting and Data Analysis:

Present data in clear, concise reports using visualizations such as charts and graphs. Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as incident rates, near-miss reporting, and training completion rates to measure the effectiveness of HSE programs.

Training and Development:

Develop and deliver engaging HSE training programs. Work with employees and achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance. Coordinate and oversee the safety committee and ensure continuation. Other duties may be assigned as trained for and required for the role. What you’ll need: Associates degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school is preferred. Experience operating heavy equipment such as forklift is highly desirable. Must have excellent communication skills. Ability to be on call during the week. Knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations. Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, PowerPoint.
