Position Overview:
The Site Safety Technician is responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations, policies, and procedures at construction sites. This individual works closely with project managers, site supervisors, and workers to identify potential hazards, implement safety measures, and promote a safe working environment. The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to risk management.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Compliance Monitoring:
Conduct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA standards, company policies, and applicable regulations. Identify unsafe conditions, equipment, or practices and recommend corrective actions.
Hazard Assessment and Mitigation:
Perform risk assessments and hazard analysis to anticipate potential safety issues. Implement measures to mitigate risks, such as signage, barriers, or revised work procedures.
Training and Awareness:
Provide safety training to site personnel, including toolbox talks and emergency response drills. Educate workers on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Incident Management:
Respond promptly to workplace incidents, investigate root causes, and prepare detailed reports. Recommend and enforce corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of inspections, incident reports, and training sessions. Prepare and submit required safety reports to management and regulatory bodies. Basic Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, etc.)
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with project teams to integrate safety measures into site operations. Communicate safety expectations and updates effectively to all stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certifications in safety management is beneficial. Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards. Certifications such as First Aid/CPR, or CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) are advantageous. OSHA 30 Certification required. Strong observational and analytical skills to identify and address potential hazards. Experience safety over excavation, trenching, grading, infrastructure, etc. Effective communication skills for training and collaboration. Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including outdoor construction sites. Ability to multitask, to manage shifting priorities and to follow through on projects with minimal direction.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, and move around construction sites for extended periods. Comfort with climbing, lifting, and working at heights when necessary. Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hats, safety boots, and gloves.
