Job Description:

Responsible for the management of UF’s chemical inventory system: 1) Implement, optimize, maintain, and monitor the use of inventory software. 2) Provide customer service regarding chemical inventory matters. 3) Monitor customer compliance with UF’s chemical inventory requirements. 4) auditing chemical use and storage area findings and chemical purchases against electronic inventory data. Identify, address, and correct any audit discrepancies as appropriate. Prepares for, and conducts inspections of, University laboratories to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Completes duties associated with inspection performance including reviewing safety related information and records, scheduling visits, conducting site visits, administering survey questionnaires, visually inspecting laboratories (lab safety, biological, shops and IFAS), and evaluating various pieces of safety equipment. Requires interaction with principal investigators (PI), technicians, students, departmental administrators, and UF’s Facilities Services Division. Operate UF/state vehicle(s) to and from inspection sites. Evaluates survey results, generates reports, and provides assistance related to noted deficiencies as needed. Evaluates corrective actions from noted deficiencies and follows up as needed. Provides Principal Investigators, students, and lab staff guidance on health and safety requirements for high-risk procedures and activities and assist with selection of appropriate safety controls, including engineering controls, laboratory and other workplace practices and procedures, training, and personal protective equipment. Develop training materials regarding UF’s chemical inventory program. Train EHS colleagues, managers, principal investigators, shops and other relevant stakeholders regarding chemical inventory system and lab safety requirements. Work as needed with state and federal regulatory agencies and first responder representatives on matters related to chemical inventory, security, and safe storage. Create chemical inventory reports as needed. Conducts administrative tasks including but not limited to auditing purchase requisitions and purchase orders sent through UF’s eProcurement system for chemicals, hazardous materials, and safety equipment. Monitoring the Lab Safety email inbox. Generates data reports; answers general safety-related questions; manages and updates; lab safety handouts, reference materials, and web page content as directed. Serve as a backup for Gator TRACS customer service inquiries and provide Gator TRACS technical support. Coordinate the Hydrofluoric Acid and other chemical/hazard specific safety programs. Completes special projects including the evaluation and gathering of data from the University research community; benchmarking with peer safety programs, researching safety related topics, assisting with, or providing training to the research community. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & TRAINING

Advanced degree (preferably in STEM)

EXPERIENCE

Four (4) years of safety related experience or other related experience.

KNOWLEDGE

+ Knowledge and understanding of laboratory safety regulations, + Knowledge and understanding of basic concepts of chemical hazard safety, + Knowledge and understanding of research laboratories, + Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
