POSITION SUMMARY
  • The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring effective implementation and maintenance of safety and industrial health programs at facility.

Ensures standards are applied consistently to promote compliance and a work environment that adheres to regulations and Gables environmental, safety and health policies and procedures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Creates, monitors, and measures environmental health and safety programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations including, but not limited to laws and requirements established by OSHA, EPA, DOT, State and local environmental and health agencies, fire departments, as well as company-specific industrial hygiene monitoring programs to include hearing, vision, and respiratory protection•Ensure accuracy and legal compliance of all EHS programs, maintain all necessary documents, and perform necessary analysis to make viable suggestions for improvements in the current programs or systems•Systematically performs compliance audits of work areas to detect and correct unsafe conditions and behaviors and implement corrective actions with the support of responsible department supervisors to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local regulations, and company-specific environmental health and safety programs•Leads thorough and effective incident investigations into accidents and near-misses to include root cause analysis and ensures corrective actions for prevention of future accidents are executed timely•Develops Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs), as needed, to inform the creation of and updating of EHS policies•Creates and updates all safety training to foster an environment with a high level of compliance of EHS policies and procedures•Reports and reviews findings from facilities inspections or environmental testing•Contributes to continuous improvement and uses Plan-Do-Check-Act process in all job functions•Serves as subject matter expert in identifying and evaluating personal protective equipment needs (fall-protection, electrical, and hazardous materials)•Provide first aid and CPR training, as needed, for staff members•Assists with ergonomic assessments and provides support and advice for the continuous improvement of job processes•Supports facility inspections and site emergency response by conducting exercises/drills as well as handling the associated regulatory reporting, if required.
JOB SKILLS REQUIRED

In depth knowledge of

EHS/OSHA

regulations and regulatory requirements.

Familiarity with NFPA standards a plus.

Ability to respond to problems and issues in a tactful and time sensitive manner.

Strong coordination skills and ability to work with supervisors to ensure communication is being regularly communicated to workforce.

Ability to translate, statistically analyze data and effectively report problems through written or graphical formatsAbility to work simultaneously on multiple projects with various deadlines and objectives.

Ability to maintain confidentiality on all issues related to positionProficiency with Microsoft office applications

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

B.S. Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or similar degree desirable or 2-3 years of EHS experience in manufacturing environment.

Current OSHA 30-hour certificationCurrent Hazardous Waste Handler Certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)
