Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Sanitarian handles heavy-duty deep cleaning, sanitation, and specialized disinfection procedures of all assigned areas within the facility, including detailed cleaning and sanitizing of equipment in Pot Wash, Hot Food, Cold Food, and Assembly areas. This role ensures compliance with USDA, FDA, HACCP, and company-specific sanitation standards to maintain a hygienic and food-safe environment. The Sanitarian will operate sanitation equipment, handle cleaning chemicals safely, conduct sanitation inspections, and maintain records of sanitation activities while adhering to all safety and food safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Cleaning & Sanitizing Equipment and Areas:
Perform detailed end of shift cleaning and sanitization of equipment in various areas. Inspect equipment after cleaning to ensure compliance with sanitation standards, performing re-cleaning as needed.
Floor & Drain Maintenance:
Operate floor machines such as scrubbers, sweepers, and buffers to maintain cleanliness in all production and common areas. Perform manual floor cleaning using mops, squeegees, and brushes when necessary. Clean and sanitize drains according to the defined frequency using chemical foaming agents, ensuring proper drainage and hygiene.
Use of Cleaning Tools & Equipment:
Safely operate and maintain sanitation equipment, including: Floor scrubbers and buffers Pressure washers and chemical sprayers Chemical foaming systems Cardboard balers for waste disposal Utilize cleaning tools such as scouring pads, deck brushes, hoses, and mops to complete sanitation tasks effectively.
Chemical Handling & Safety:
Handle, mix, and apply cleaning chemicals properly, following manufacturer instructions, OSHA regulations, and food safety guidelines. Wear and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, and aprons when handling chemicals. Maintain compliance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure proper chemical storage and disposal.
Sanitizer Monitoring & Recordkeeping:
Test and log sanitizer PPM (Parts Per Million) levels to ensure compliance with food safety regulations. Maintain accurate records of sanitation tasks Report any deviations from cleaning schedules or sanitation concerns to supervisors for corrective action.
Workload Organization & Reporting:
Follow and adhere to the facility’s cleaning schedule Communicate with supervisors about any equipment malfunctions, sanitation concerns, or supply needs. Compliance with
Health, Safety, and Regulatory Standards:
Follow company-specific sanitation and food safety guidelines. Comply with workplace safety protocols, including proper lifting techniques and safe equipment operation. Qualifications and Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs/ and push and pull up to 50 lbs. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch for extended periods. Ability to safely climb and work from a 6-foot ladder. Ability to work in wet, humid, and cold environments. Strong ability to identify sanitation issues and ensure thorough cleaning. Ability to maintain accurate logs of sanitation activities, including sanitizer PPM levels. Strong organizational skills to follow cleaning schedules and prioritize tasks efficiently.
