EHS Technician City of West Palm Beach – 3.7 West Palm Beach, FL Job Details Full-time $63,245 a year 10 hours ago Qualifications Mid-level High school diploma or GED Driver’s License Class E Bachelor’s degree 2 years Full Job Description Under limited direction, provides highly responsible support for the City’s Environmental, Health & Safety Programs and Risk Management-EHS Office. Assists with coordinating and conducting safety and health education development classes as assigned. Under the supervision of the EHS Officer, conducts safety inspections, facility inspection for ADA compliance, accident investigations, safety and workers’ compensation training for new employees. Assists in the development of the monthly Safety newsletter and coordinates administrative matters including payment of invoices, and other related items; and performs other related duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Which are not in any hierarchical order) 1. Conducts safety and workers’ compensation orientation for new employees. 2. Conducts driver safety training programs as assigned. Facilitates monthly departmental Safety Committee as assigned. 3. Conducts safety inspections and accident investigations as assigned. Conducts routine scheduled inspections of the City’s Above Ground and Underground Fuel Storage Tanks to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws. Conducts job site visits of various City work areas to ensure compliance with Safety, Environmental, and ADA accessibility rules and regulations. 4. Coordinates and processes workers’ compensation, annual medical physicals, and drug-free workplace testing. Develops and maintains computer database of status and results of all physicals. 5. Prepares training schedules and generates notices. 6. Prepares monthly newsletter as assigned. 7. Performs general administrative functions as required. 8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.

May be required to respond to vehicle accidents and releases of hazardous materials to initiate corrective actions, collect reporting data, initiate drug and alcohol testing on a 24hr basis. 2. Collects and prepares monthly

log of on-the-job accidents and injuries. Prepares annual report of accidents and injuries. Salary (Pay grade 60) $63,245 Annually Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with a major in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management, Life Sciences or related field (education will be verified using the “Education Requirements” listed below) and two (2) years of related experience is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. A current and valid Florida driver’s license is required. For application purposes, a valid driver’s license from any state (equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized; with the ability to obtain the State of Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of employment. Special Driving Requirements Have not lost any driving privileges by reason of revocation, suspension or denial of license, or have been convicted and/or had an adjudication withheld of three or more moving violations. Have not had one DUI (Driving Under the Influence) in any preceding twenty-four (24) month period. License suspension of two weeks or less or suspensions based only on non-moving violations that have been cleared will not automatically result in revocation of driving privileges. Have not had more than one DUI (conviction or adjudication withheld) in Florida or any other state within the past ten (10) years.

Education Requirements :

To be considered valid (or verified) for position qualification purposes, and consistent with City Hiring Policy 4-5, a High School, GED or equivalent diploma, and all higher education degrees or certifications must have been issued by: a) a public education institution in the State of Florida or any State or Territory of the United States; or b) an institution accredited by an accrediting organization that is recognized by the Florida Department of Education or the U.S. Department of Education; or c) an institution that is accredited by an organization that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA); or d) an institution whose degree or certification is accepted by institutions identified in either a), b), or c), above, for the purpose of admission to institutions identified in either a), b), or c) above. International degrees will be evaluated to determine if they satisfy qualification requirements. Additional Details The selection process for this position may consist of any, all or a combination of the following tests: evaluation of training and experience, written examination, structured oral interview or other assessment method.

State of Emergency:

When normal operations of City departments are suspended or interrupted due to a declaration by the Mayor that a state of emergency exists, all employees will be deemed critical by the City. For the preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail, employees deemed necessary shall be required to work. Employees deemed critical by the City but not needed for the initial preparation and/or continuation of emergency operations or for special work detail may be directed not to report to work, and given paid administrative leave or they may be reassigned to another location that best meet the needs of the City.
