We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety ( EHS) Specialist to join our team in Haines City, Florida ! The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will assist the site Environmental Health and Safety Manager in managing all programs for environmental compliance, loss control, safety, health, fire prevention, emergency response planning, and associated training. This individual will assist in designing and delivering programs to meet federal, state, local, and corporate environmental safety and health regulations while maintaining the applicable records and documentation demonstrable during an inspection or audit. Works with all departments, as well as site and corporate EH&S, government agencies, industry associations, and peers within our industry. - Manage and maintain current and accurate safety policies, manuals, and procedures to ensure safety within the facility.
- Maintain current working knowledge of all applicable federal and state, local regulations, as well as corporate guidelines and policies; educates plant staff and ensure compliance.
- Develop effective training programs that satisfy legal requirements and reinforce a safe environment.
- Provide training (formal and informal) to employees, supervisors, and managers on safety policies and practices.
- Manage and update emergency action plans for the site.
- Provide safety orientation for all new employees as well as all visiting contractors.
- Serve as a safety representative for installation and safe operation of all new equipment and buildings
- Conduct Safety Committee meetings for both operations, office, and management employees.
- Perform safety audits throughout the manufacturing facility as required for internal and external sources.
- Manage worker compensation claims in partnership with human resources and communicates with the insurance carrier and broker as necessary.
- Conduct risk assessments for all departments and make recommendations for modifications to practices, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
- Maintain an active presence on the production, warehouse floor and observes employees throughout the plant, and provide feedback/coaching in regards to unsafe acts and behaviors.
- Communicate regulatorily and permit requirements to the plant.
- Maintain and order a supply of safety equipment (PPE) used by the facility.
- Participate in various meetings and workgroups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain a specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform other job-related duties in the area of responsibility as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or degree in a Science-related field with a minimum 1 year of work experience dedicated to health and safety and /or environmental field in an industrial setting, or equivalent education and work experience.
- Possess computer skills – specifically Microsoft Office Suite.
