CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY AND SECURITY AND FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.

Kind of Work Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to administer and manage the Parish employee/public safety and accident investigation program. This professional-level position works closely with management and operational personnel to evaluate safety performance, recommend corrective actions, and implement them. The Safety & Security Specialist is responsible for providing safety expertise to Jefferson Parish management and employees, conducting vehicle accident investigations, job site/work zone inspections, and building safety assessments. They also prepare vehicle accident investigations, internal investigation findings, and safety reports, including recommendations for corrective actions, for the Safety Manager. Performs related work as required. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference. Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination Meets ONE of the following options:
I. Current employment and permanent civil service status in a safety/security classification with Jefferson Parish; plus, three (3) years of paid work experience conducting worksite safety/security inspections, investigations, or evaluations. II. Verifiable graduation from a law enforcement academy OR possession of an accredited Associate’s degree (preferably with major coursework in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, Criminal Justice, or closely related); plus, three (3) years of paid work experience, as described in Option I. III. Possession of an accredited Bachelor’s degree (preferably with major coursework in Occupational Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, Criminal Justice, or closely related); plus, one (1) year of paid work experience, as described in Option I.

Substitution:

Valid professional certification in security management (e.g., CPP or PSP), safety (e.g., CSP), or completion of the 30-hour OSHA training program may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate. ) The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing.
