Abbeville, LA Responsibilities:
The Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Coordinator will be responsible for safely and efficiently performing the specific duties below:
- Actively contribute to the advancement of safety culture within the workplace. Encourage and involve all employees in the ownership and continuous improvement of HSS&E in the workplace.
- Act as facilitator and consultant to facility management teams to ensure they are working within all legislative and corporate standards.
- Provide resource support in the development and periodic review of plant-specific HSS&E Training Needs Analysis and deliver training to plant and vessel employees as per annual training schedule.
- Provide new hire to all plant and vessel employees as required.
- Conduct weekly HSS&E audits of Omega Protein, Inc.
facilities and vessels, in accordance with Omega Protein compliance systems to verify compliance with said standards. The scope of these audits shall include but will not be limited to ensuring that the plant and vessels are equipped with all required safety equipment within accordance of OSHA regulations, and that they are operating within USCG and EPA regulations, in regards to pollution prevention. Review the completed internal audits of the plant/vessels within their area of responsibility and provide guidance with regard to non-conformance and continuous improvement activities. The HSS&E Coordinator shall not only verify compliance, but shall also immediately report instances of non-compliance to the Director of HSS&E.

- Collect and analyze HSS&E statistical data and assist their facility in developing action plans to address deficiencies and present these findings in written reports to the HSS&E Director.
- Investigate all accidents/incidents on vessels and at the facility in a timely manner.
- Provide resource support to the yard management to improve HSS&E management in areas such as: environmental permitting, industrial hygiene assessments, problem analysis/troubleshooting, risk assessments, and interpretation of applicable legislation and practices including compliance and/or non-compliance issues.
- Provide knowledge, direction and guidance to assist the management team in their assigned plant, in the reduction and elimination of waste from its operations and the discharge of contaminants to the environment.
- Assist with revisions/updates of the Marine Safety & Environmental Compliance System and Facility Safety & Environmental Compliance System, respectively.
- Foster the learning and development of plant team members in the HSS&E area through coaching and mentoring.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum requirements:
- A degree and/or specialized certification in Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental studies coupled with at least two years progressive experience in Occupational Health Safety and Environment in an industrial setting, or USCG maritime experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- This position requires strong interpersonal skills coupled with demonstratable working knowledge of regulations and standards, occupational hygiene, safety and environmental principles.
- Computer literacy as well as working knowledge of processes, hazard identification, accident investigation and injury reduction principles.
