JOB DESCRIPTION

This role involves coordinating and supporting camp trips, ensuring the safety and preparedness of participants, and contributing to the overall success of outdoor experiences. The Program Coordinator – Trip Coordinator & Pack-Out is responsible for planning and supporting all overnight and day trips at Bryant Pond 4-H Camp. This role includes training staff on the use of Garmin InReach devices, maintaining communication with trip groups to ensure their safety, and preparing food and supplies for off-site participants. Additionally, the coordinator may assist in driving camp vehicles to support transportation logistics. This position will be based at Bryant Pond 4-H Camp in Bryant Pond, Maine. This is a full-time position from June to August. Work hours can be flexible when working to meet camp needs during that time frame. $500-600 per week, for up to 10 weeks, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

Plan and coordinate logistics for all overnight and day trips, ensuring alignment with camp goals and safety standards.
Maintain regular communication with groups during trips to ensure safety and provide support as needed.
Pack and organize food, gear, and supplies for off-site trips.
May drive camp vehicles to transport participants, supplies, and equipment as required.
Attend staff meetings and provide trip updates and debriefs.’
Train staff in the use of Garmin InReach devices for effective communication and emergency readiness.
Adhere to safety and risk management protocols at all times.
Assist with other camp programs or duties as needed, including occasional campsite or bunk coverage.
Perform camp chores that contribute to the well-being of the camp community.

Who We Are:

The 4-H Camp and Learning Centers provide environmentally focused programs for Maine youth and families in Bryant Pond. Our mission is to teach youth and adults to be effective and caring citizens of the earth through affordable environmental education and fun nature-based experiences. The camp is located in Bryant Pond, Maine is nestled on the shores of Lake Christopher with 160 acres of forest and mountain trails leading to remote campsites, streams, ponds, wetlands, and a mountain summit. A short drive from the camp you can be in the beautiful White Mountain National Forest and the Rangeley Lakes area. The local area provides many opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts including rock climbing, backpacking, hunting and fishing, canoeing, and a large winter ski and sport industry. Portland, Maine’s largest city is only an hour’s drive with live music, great food, and shopping.

Qualifications:
Required:

You need a High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
You need a minimum of 3 years related experience working with youth and teaching in the outdoors or equivalent
AND/OR
You need to hold an additional certification that is value-added to keep our campers safe like: Lifeguard certification
Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification

Preferred:

You hold a higher additional certification that is specific to the outdoors like: Wilderness Responder Certification
You have a genuine motivation to work with children in a vibrant, high-energy outdoor setting where every day is an adventure.
You demonstrate responsible and safe decision-making skills, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all campers during outdoor programming
You hold a First Aid and Basic Life Support certification or are eager to obtain one before the start date to ensure the safety and well-being of campers.
You have the ability to lead groups in various outdoor environments, comfortably carrying a small backpack filled with teaching supplies and a first aid kit to support your activities.
Experience in Western Maine outdoor tripping.
Experience with Garmin InReach or similar GPS communication devices.
Knowledge of outdoor trip safety and risk management practices.
Prior experience in a summer camp setting or working with youth.
You have a genuine motivation to work with children in a vibrant, high-energy outdoor setting where every day is an adventure.
You demonstrate responsible and safe decision-making skills, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all campers during outdoor programming
