Industrial Hygienist III (CIH)

Stennis Space Center, MS 39529 General Description Under general guidance, the Industrial Hygienist III will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling environmental hazards in the workplace that may adversely affect the health, comfort, and productivity of employees. This role is critical in ensuring the health and safety of all personnel by implementing comprehensive industrial hygiene programs and conducting thorough assessments of workplace conditions. How You Will Fulfill Your Mission Perform the final review of industrial hygiene technical reports prior to dissemination to ensure accuracy and quality. Provide technical assistance to and/or develops and implements industrial hygiene programs to include, but not limited to, asbestos sampling; indoor air quality; confined space; sample and analysis of air contaminants associated with hazardous operations; propellant transfer and storage; exhaust ventilation systems; hearing conservation and noise hazards; heat stress; biological safety; and ergonomics. Conduct comprehensive industrial hygiene assessments and surveys to evaluate workplace conditions. Develop and implement programs to monitor and control chemical, physical, and biological agents. Perform air sampling and analysis, noise monitoring, and ergonomic assessments. Provide recommendations for hazard control and risk mitigation. Collaborate with safety professionals and management to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and other applicable standards. Prepare detailed reports documenting findings and recommendations. Deliver training and education to employees on industrial hygiene practices and principles. Respond to emergency situations and provide technical guidance on exposure issues. You have faith in your own ideas and ability to be successful You hold yourself to the highest standard and work to inspire your team to produce quality work Specific Knowledge/Certification Requirements Minimum Qualifications Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) Bachelor’s degree in relevant science discipline Minimum of six (6) years of experience performing and/or managing Industrial Hygiene work Minimum two (2) year Health Physics experience Demonstrated ability to prepare and review technical reports Ability to work a flexible schedule with the potential for working off shift and weekends to support hurricanes, launches, and emergencies Strong interpersonal and leadership skills Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems and lead programs/projects Demonstrated ability to read and interpret written scientific and/or technical information and effectively communicate the same information verbally to subordinates and customers Demonstrated ability to interpret regulatory intent applicable to assigned areas of responsibility, including OSHA and NASA requirements Experience in working with customers and managing multiple job requirements and projects Proficient using Microsoft Office Programs Must possess a valid driver’s license, have the ability to drive various vehicles, and be eligible for a Federal security clearance

Physical Demands :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods of time; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear; have sufficient manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, and other such office equipment as necessary; may occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds or more with assistance, working at heights; in small and confined spaces as well as be able to wear personal protective equipment such as air-purifying respirators, self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), fall protection, and encapsulated suits. Employee will be exposed to industrial equipment and vehicles, facilities without climate controls, and outdoor settings in all weather conditions, possibly for extended periods of time. Specific visual abilities required by the job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.

Work Environment :

Work will be performed in a hybrid setting to include field and office work. Field work may need to be performed outdoors (in various weather conditions) and in the following settings: construction and demolition sites, industrial facilities, research facilities, and laboratory facilities. The work schedule is typically a 40-hour work week, Monday – Friday. May be required to work an extended work schedule as necessary to fulfill job functions, including working irregular hours and off-shift work, including weekends.

Travel :

A low to moderate amount of travel away from the office may be required; may be asked to support Michoud Assembly Facility, LA virtually or in person on occasion
