RESPONSIBILITIES
A Food Safety & Quality Assurance (FSQA) Coordinator ensures that products meet company and customer specifications by monitoring critical control points and assuring products are within company and regulatory standards for Quality and Food Safety. The position is responsible for supporting various programs such as SQF, HACCP/HARPC, Quality Programs as Hold & Releases, Analyzing Trend Data to provide cross functional team members/management on RTFT, Thrift, Process Controls, SPC, RedZone, Other Quality KPI’s etc. This is accomplished primarily through work on-the-production floor and product and/or process auditing.
SCOPE OF POSITION
The FSQA Coordinator identifies and assists in the elimination of product concerns; maintains accurate, detailed laboratory and compliance records; makes decisions and provides guidance regarding food safety as well as product quality; supports initiatives to drive and monitor continuous improvement; and supports programs including:
Food Safety:
Ensure Compliance to the following: Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) or Hazard Analysis Risk Based Preventive Controls (HARPC).
Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP).
Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
Other relevant Food Safety Procedures (i.e. Allergen, Foreign Material Programs).
Safe Quality Foods (SQF), Organic Certification, RSPO, Kosher, Internal & External auditing, Army (Military) Audit, State & Federal Audits.
Quality and Regulatory:
Responsible for performing Annual Trace/Recall Exercise’s (Forward & ward Trace) to account for all finished product and/or ingredients and packaging materials used in the manufacture of SLFB products for potential recall. Responsible for performing Quarterly Mass Balance (MB) Trace Exercise for RSPO ingredient(s).
Drive SPC/RedZone data collection system and completes system updates.
Assist in data collection of SPC System to provide reduction/elimination of variation within processes.
Collect data for capability studies for the plant.
Conduct detailed product audits as assigned to assure conformance of product and package details to specifications.
Appropriately isolate non-conforming product through process of Hold, Release and product disposition.
Daily Hold & Release (PRLS Release) communication to Americold WHSe to ensure service cuts are eliminated.
Responsible for weekly disposition of Held product with FSQA Supervisor and/or FSQA Manager and updating Hold Report.
Responsible for Monthly reporting of finished products to destroy to Finance, Logistics Managers for accrual and destruction.
Responsible for daily, weekly and monthly updates of Quality KPI’s such as RTFT, Thrift Report, DDS4 Dashboard for Management Review, Hold Report, etc.
Calibration of lab equipment and/or bakery equipment’s such as X-Ray, Metal Detectors, Flow devices, Scales, Moisture meters, thermometers etc.
Daily Record review/ Pre-shipment review of Production and FSQA Paperwork.
Conduct daily product panels/sensory/cutting review and document results.
Supporting FSQA Supervisor and Manager in all onsite audits (FDA, SQF, Internal Corporate, RSPO, Kosher, etc.)
Perform COA reviews – for release of new or existing ingredients & packaging materials in NetSuite. Participate in Food Safety, Food Fraud, Lab Methods, and Recall programs. Monitor all Pre-requisite programs in regard to SQF such as Sanitation, Allergen verification programs etc.
Auditing (temperature checks, checks, Metal Detector/X-Ray verification, Net weight, label verification for primary & secondary packaging, lot code verification, sensory evaluation etc.)
Verification of adherence to product and material specifications including allergen validation.
Verification of manufacturing activities.
Develop capabilities in the shelf life and product evaluation programs.
Actively participate in Safety & CI teams as needed.
Cross-training in other QA functions as needed.
Other duties as assigned by FSQA Supervisor and/or FSQA Manager. Research and Development Assist in New Product Qualifications and processing of finished product specs & photo standards.
Product Continuous Improvement Projects as assigned. A trained designee will be appointed by FSQA Supervisor and/or FSQA Manager to cover for absences or vacancies.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree in Science, Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology or related field preferred.
2 to 4 years of related experience in Quality Assurance in a Food Manufacturing/Processing or Pharmaceutical industry required, with 2 years in a manufacturing environment under FDA and/or USDA and
HACCP/HARPC.
NetSuite and/or SAP experience required, with a minimum of two (2) years.
HACCP certification required.
Proficient knowledge of performing a Trace Exercise (Forward & ward Trace).
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office programs required. Proficient knowledge of Alchemy software for tracking and trending Quality Trainings for all bakery teams.
Proficient knowledge of SQF, FSSC, BRC, or any other GFSI audits preferred.
Proficient knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) required. Knowledge of environmental programs and practices and software’s (3M, Allergen 3D Reveal, Veratox, Neogen, LIMS etc.) preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Demonstrate leadership in the areas of food safety and plant regulatory affairs. Comprehensive experience with FDA and/or USDA Rules and Regulations. Must have strong organizational and leadership skills. Strong ability to prioritize tasks.
Demonstrated ability to problem solve.
Strong computer skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate across all organizational levels within the company.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment while performing job (i.e. safety glasses, ear plugs, bump cap, hair net, steel toe, slip resistant safety boots).
May be required to work in hot (up to 102o F) for intervals of 45 minutes.
May be required to work in cold and/or wet environments of a minimum of 0o F. Must be able to constantly stand, stoop, walk, bend, push or pull for duration of shift, which may last up to 12 hours.
May be required to lift up to 40 pounds.
May work in Production or Warehouse storage areas.
May be required to climb ladders/stairs. Must have the visual acuity to perform possible pre-op duties and/or read paperwork and labels
