This person develops corporate safety programs and objectives and coordinates safety training programs. Also, this employee monitors safety and health regulations and provides technical support to operations, transportation, and corporate personnel to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations. Essential Duties and responsibilities Select Genetics presents a solid platform to serve customers on a national and international scale by providing quality poults, service, and innovation. Select Genetics is the leading supplier of poults to growers and companies across the world and has operations in eight US States. The Safety Coordinator administers tools and processes that protect our employees from injury. The position reports to and is supervised by the Global Safety Manager. Works closely with staff in every aspect of the company’s operation. Provides technical safety and health support and information to operations, transportation, and corporate personnel. Assists with preparation/revision of written safety and health programs and policies. Identifies company safety training needs and develops and coordinates safety training programs. Develops annual company safety and health goals. Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc. Supports operations to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards. Supports operations in the selection of appropriate personal protective equipment. Maintains corporate safety library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals). Promotes safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training programs. Participates in company safety committees Assists as necessary in implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports. Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for safety and health considerations. Understands federal and state occupational safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur. Provides technical support to operations to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations. Advises staff of regulatory changes with which the operations must comply. Sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured. Audits practices and records of locations to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state occupational safety and health regulations. Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker’s compensation claims. Reviews regional safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary. Reviews injury/illness and near miss incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary. Principal Accountabilities Supervisory Responsibility Reporting to the Global Safety Manager, this position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the organization. Work Environment This job operates in a variety of environments ranging from the professional office to poultry production barns and hatcheries . This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines, as well as specialized atmospheric and environmental testing equipment. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals, and fumes, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines, as well as specialized atmospheric and environmental testing equipment. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals, and fumes, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee must be physically able to wear a respirator. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
