Job Summary:
The Safety Trainer is an important member of theoccupational health and safety (OHS) team, providing support andtraining in all areas of the complex. They assess workplaceprocesses and recognize hazards that may lead to injury, thencommunicate to employees how to lessen risk of injury. Reducing therisk of injuries caused by chemicals, physical substances orergonomics is the primary goal. A successful Safety Trainer willhave a significant impact on the reduction of workplaceinjury.
Essential Duties, Functions, and responsibilities: Collaborate with others for safetytechniques for on-the-job training during new hires ramp-inperiod.
Follows direction of Safety Manager and ProductionSupervisors/Superintendents to guide new hire associates of dailyproduction duties.
Observes equipment operation, notifyingappropriate personnel of any malfunctions and/or safetyissues/concerns.
Ensures all new hires understand required worksafety instructions before assignment to the job.
Ensures new hiresfollow all ergonomic program requirements including ramp in,rotation, early intervention, comfort surveys and proper jobmethods. – -Assists in monitoring new hire progress throughtraining period and ensures paperwork is completed and filed.
Assistwith new hire ergonomic evaluations and works closely with HR,supervisors and OHS to ensure issues are addressed properly andtimely.
Actively participates and recruits team members forSafety/Star Site team.
Assists with hazard assessments to includeErgonomic Worksite Analysis, Job Safety Analysis, PPE HazardAssessments, LOTO Procedures, Accident/Incident investigations andSafety Inspections.
Other safety duties as assigned by the ComplexSafety Manager.
Maintains all safety files and records in accordancewith standards set by local, state, and federal laws andregulations to in include OSHA and all auditing entities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Follows all safety, USDA, and GMPpolicies and guidelines.
Maintain a clean and organized workarea.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Communicationskills are critical for safety trainers. They must be able toconvey information effectively in writing and in presentations orspeeches to other employees. Listening to other employees also canbe crucial in identifying hazards.
Critical thinking skills help thetrainer reason effectively to weigh possible solutions orapproaches to problems.
Must be able to work in a team atmosphereand possess good leadership skills.
Must have working knowledge ofall positions on the line.
Must be willing and able to performphysical requirements of the job with or without reasonableaccommodation.
Must be at least 18 years of age and legallyauthorized to work in the United States.
Must pass a backgroundcheck, drug screen and pre-employment physical.
Must have excellentattendance / disciplinary record.
Bilingual in English/Spanishpreferred.
Physical Requirements:
Standing (8 hours a day ormore).Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling (up to and including50lbs or more).Reaching overhead (up to and including25lbs).Operating handheld and/or mechanicalmachinery.
Walking/climbing stairs. -Gripping, grasping, andtwisting using hands and wrists.
Bending and stooping for longperiods of time.
Working with scissors or knives.
WorkingConditions/Department Description:

May work in damp, cold, hot, andwarm environments.
