JOB SUMMARY

The Occupational Health Technician assists the Occupational Health Department to maintain regulatory compliance and operational functions related to employee health services. Primary responsibilities focus on conducting drug and alcohol testing in accordance with DOT/FTA regulations and RGRTA policy, assisting to maintain required documentation in medical records, and scheduling and tracking required health examinations. This position also assists the Leave Administrator with the processing of employee leaves. Additional duties include, performance of general office duties, including answering phones, managing calendars, data entry, filing and managing supply inventory.

COMPENSATION

$21.63/hr. – $25.00/hr. (depending on experience)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

+ Conduct and schedule drug and alcohol tests at the main office and regional locations. + Perform general office duties, including answering phones, managing calendars, scheduling appointments, data entry, filing, and managing supply inventory. + Schedule 19A examinations, return-to-work, and fit-for duty exams for safety sensitive employees in collaboration with contracted occupational health providers. + Track and collect 19A forms, HIPAA releases and request medical documentation as required. + Maintain all 19A files, ensuring accuracy and compliance NY State Department of Motor Vehicle & Traffic Law. + Communicate safety-sensitive employee work status (cleared, restricted, or out of service) to appropriate departments. + Collaborate with the Leave Administrator to secure and process FMLA, Disability, and Workers’ Compensation documentation. + Uphold the highest level of confidentiality in handling sensitive employee health information and ensure all records are maintained in a HIPPA-compliant manner.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

+ Two (2) years’ experience working in a medical office setting. + Valid NYS Driver’s License required (required for regional travel in company vehicle). + Certified in drug and alcohol collections preferred. Training will be provided if not certified. + An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

+ Competence in Microsoft office (Outlook, Word, Excel); ability to learn internal systems. + Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. + Discretion in handling sensitive medical and personnel information. + Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines. + Self-motivated; self-directed; ability to work with minimal supervision.

WORK LOCATION

+ 1372 E. Main St. Rochester will be the primary work location. + Occasional travel to the surrounding counties will be required to conduct drug and alcohol testing. + This position is not eligible to participate in hybrid work given the employee-facing requirements.
