Health & Safety and Quality Coordinator On-Site Frontier Steel, a Division of Russel Metals Williams Bahcall Inc. 4990 Grand Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15225 Russel Metals is one of the largest metals distribution companies in North America, with a growing focus on value-added processing. We are seeking a Health & Safety and Quality Coordinator to join our team and play a key role in ensuring compliance with safety regulations, maintaining product quality, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Position Overview:

The Health & Safety and Quality Coordinator champions and promotes safety awareness while monitoring safety-related functions, including the satisfactory completion of risk assessments and audits. The Coordinator also facilitates improved health and safety conditions in the workplace by providing guidance to facility managers, supervisors and safety designees, focusing on reducing the frequency and severity of workplace injuries, illness, disease and compliance with all federal, state and local health and safety legislation, regulations, codes and standards. Additional responsibilities include conducting quality inspections and ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company standards. This role is essential in maintaining a safe work environment while also ensuring that products meet the highest levels of quality before reaching customers.

Essential Job Functions:
Safety Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance to ensure a standard approach to the implementation of the health and safety management initiatives, procedures, programs and workers compensation claims.
  • Monitor existing programs for continuous health and safety improvement and provide effective integration of health and safety practices into business operations through required training and tracking of results to ensure target needs are addressed.
  • Maintain audit plans, schedules, documents and findings and ensure that action plans are properly addressed with suitable corrective action plans.
  • Liaison with Corporate Health and Safety so the plant is aware of the latest corporate plans and targets.
  • Prepare toolbox sessions on issues currently relevant in improving health and safety issues.
  • Lead all incident investigations and ensure they are conducted correctly, and proper preventative measures are suggested.
  • Research best practices and emerging information relating to health and safety regarding the implementation of preventative measures.
  • Schedule and facilitate monthly safety meetings
  • Responsible for OSHA 300 and working closely with leadership to manage any worker’s comp claims
  • DOT Compliance including but not limited to ELD, camera management, MVR tracking, Clearinghouse compliance, etc.
Quality Responsibilities:

Conduct quality inspections on materials, finished products, and processes to ensure they meet company and customer specifications. Monitor production processes to identify any deviations from quality standards and work with teams to implement improvements. Maintain quality documentation and records, including inspection reports and compliance certifications. Work closely with operations and production teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions. Ensure compliance with ISO standards and other relevant industry regulations. Assist with customer and internal audits, providing necessary documentation and process explanations.

Qualifications & Experience:

Must have a minimum of 2+ years of current industrial safety experience, Metal Service Center industry preferred. (Please clearly highlight your steel experience on your resume). Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and quality management systems. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify risks and implement solutions. Ability to conduct training sessions and communicate safety and quality procedures effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to maintain organized records. Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Certification in safety management (OSHA 30, CSP, or similar) and quality control (ISO, Six Sigma, or similar) is a plus. Work office is located on site.
