SPECIFICSThe Pennsylvania State University Department of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), a department of University Police and Public Safety, is seeking to hire aRegional EHS Coordinator.

As a Regional EHS Coordinator, you will:

Work with a group of client locations, including Commonwealth Campuses and research locations in Zone 2, to effectively implement environmental health and safety (EHS) services and programs. This position will support Penn State Altoona, Fayette, Harrisburg, Mont Alto and York Campuses as well as the Altoona Bus Research and Testing Center, CoAS Southeast Ag Research, CoAS Fruit Research and Dickinson Law Carlisle, and is subject to change based on assignment areas and operations.

Evaluate chemical, biological and radiological, fire and general safety hazards as well as hazardous materials shipments and waste management practices; implement effective safe work practices in accordance with established departmental standards and advance the Penn State safety culture.

Implement EHS services and programs with routine supervisory review of safe work practice recommendations for high hazard operations. Initiate and lead coordinated approaches to address the development and administration of EHS programs and procedures; provide continuous analysis, interpretation, resolution, implementation and monitoring of programs.

Engage with diverse stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and students, to promote EHS best practices.

Support the development, implementation and continual improvement of EHS programs for the University.

Responsibilities include:

Promote the advancement of the Penn State safety culture for customers and act as the EHS liaison for assigned campuses and areas.

Conduct safety outreach and education for Departments and areas assigned and coordinate with supervisor to affirm effective EHS programs and service implementation in areas.

Assess and coordinate required EHS trainings based on current operations and maintain associated metrics and information systems.

Implement the occupational hazard assessment and exposure monitoring programs including chemical, biological, and radiological hazard assessments, respiratory protection, noise and hearing conservation, and ergonomics.

Conduct EHS program compliance inspections and assessments in accordance with EHS standards to determine compliance with University Environmental Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Respond as part of an emergency team to incidents involving fire, hazardous materials, environmental and chemical spills, gas leaks, indoor air quality issues, floods, and other emergencies.

Serve as the hazardous material spill responder; utilizing proper PPE and conducting clean-up and decontamination activities to remediate a hazardous material spill when necessary.

Maintain internal EHS safety training modules and certifications and provide constructive feedback on the training programs.

This position is a hybrid position that includes a combination of work out of a home office, and in-person days at the campuses throughout the southeastern division of Pennsylvania.

Bachelor’s degree in the sciences, engineering, industrial hygiene, or related field preferred. 1-2 years of related work experience in scientific research, technical, or healthcare setting is preferred.

Must be capable of demonstrating PSU supplied safety equipment and lifting/moving materials weighing up to 35 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be capable of utilizing respiratory protection equipment including negative-pressure respirators. Must be capable of climbing ladders with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be reachable and accessible for emergencies during work and off-hours via phone and email. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask, and outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with other departments are necessary.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED
