This position is being filled using Direct-Hire Authority (5 CFR 337.201) for this occupion. Duties Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Performs various duties in Industrial Hygiene program to access work practices and environmental conditions for hazards to the health and safety of workers; conducts studies of work operions and processes, examines work environments, analyzes findings, promulges recommendions, and prepares various reports; and works in environmental conditions involving a variety of hazards including physical, chemical and biological hazards, ionizing and nonionizing radiion, and other environmental agents. Regularly inspects the medical center to identify potential occupional health hazards and the need for further investigive studies and surveys; determines compliance with various established criteria, evaluing exposures, and advising on control measures and changes in work procedures or schedules to comply with established health requirements, and providing informion for evaluion purposes; and 1) selects or devises methods and instruments; 2) personally or through others, conducts measurements; and 3) studies and tests merials associed with the work operion or work environment. Performs analysis to determine nure and degree of toxic merials present; interprets results of studies for the work environment in terms of possible impairment to health, nure of health impairment, potential for medical center damages, etc., and presents specific conclusions and recommendions to approprie management and health officials; determines the need for, and effectiveness of, control measures and changes in work procedures; and recommends procedures th suitable and effective for the environment. Receives and disposes of hazardous wastes and maintains approprie records in accordance with existing Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards, ste law and facility regulions; prepares comprehensive and legally sufficient written reports of all monitoring activities performed; and ensures proper documention of employee exposures in medical records. Performs all other reled duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements :

The performance of duties requires long periods of walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, and bending. Such work must have involved experience in all of the following areas: 1) the acquisition of quantitive and qualitive da, and the measurement of exposures for a variety of chemical, physical, and biological stresses; 2) the analysis of the da acquired and the prediction of probable effects of exposures on the health and well-being of workers; and 3) the selection and recommendion of approprie controls, including management, medical, engineering, educion or training, and personal protective equipment. ) – Applicants must possess specialized experience combined with successful completion of educion beyond two (2) years of progressively higher-level gradue educion leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent gradue degree. This educion must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. To calcule, first identify the percentage of required educion you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours th you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal least 100 percent to qualify the GS-11.
