Description Administer the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety
programs and initiatives. This role will be responsible for enhancing safety
protocols, safety training, and continued education. Assuring the Division is
compliant with OSHA, NFPA, and other regulatory requirements. The Corporate
Safety Compliance Specialist will collaborate closely with multiple points of
contact within the department and serve as a key person in driving MLGW’s
safety culture, along with contributing to the overall safety strategy for the
organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop and implement MLGW’s
corporate safety programs, ensuring the Division is compliant with OSHA, NFPA,
and other regulatory standards. Drive safety initiatives that reduce workplace
hazards and that will foster a proactive safety culture across all divisions.
Collaborate with department points of contact to ensure seamless program
execution and alignment with organizational safety goals. Lead safety
orientations for new hires and contractors, tailoring training to specific work area
protocols. Develop and deliver ongoing safety training focused on compliance,
role-specific hazards, and prevention strategies with staff and contractors.
Create engaging training materials, ensuring they reflect the latest industry’s
best practices. Maintain organized documentation of safety activities, training
sessions, and audits to support internal reviews and external audits. Lead risk
assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify and mitigate
workplace hazards. Collaborate with department leaders to implement control
measures and ensure risks are managed effectively. Collaborate with Safety
Training Specialists concerning field safety inspection volume, findings, areas of
improvement, etc. ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
Develop corrective action plans and monitor progress to ensure timely resolution
of safety issues. Track key safety performance indicators such as Total
Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and Lost Time Incident Rate (LTIR). Prepare
and present data-driven reports to senior leadership, offering insights and
recommendations for safety improvements. Lead safety initiatives, workshops,
and awareness campaigns to foster a culture of safety across all levels of the
organization. Engage with frontline employees to understand safety concerns
and provide on-the-spot coaching and other duties as directed. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Safety and Health,
Occupational Safety Health, and Environment or related field OR Associate’s
Degree in Occupational Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Occupational
Safety Health, and Environment or related field OR High School Diploma/GED is
required.
EXPERIENCE
5 years of experience in Occupational Safety, Utility or related field with a
Bachelor’s Degree, OR 6 years of experience in Occupational Safety, Utility or
relative field with Associate’s Degree OR 10 years of experience in Occupational
Safety, Utility or relative field with High School Diploma/GED is required.
Demonstrated experience in developing and managing safety programs.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Must have experience in working collaboratively with cross-departmental teams
and contractors to implement safety initiatives. Special Training or
Competencies:
Preferred:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate
Safety Professional (ASP) certifications.
Other Desirable Certifications:
NFPA
70E, OSHA 30-Hour Certification, and familiarity with Six Sigma or Lean
methodologies.
Physical Demands:
This position requires the ability to stand,
walk, bend, and reach to perform site safety inspections and assessments. This
role may involve lifting to 25 pounds, conducting fieldwork in various
environments, and using personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
Regular travel between MLGW locations is also required.
