This position is Part Time (32-hours per week) Night shift (11PM-7AM), with rotating weekends.

Provides Public Safety services for all persons on hospital premises and protects hospital property from loss due to fire, theft, or vandalism. Provide switchboard operator and dispatch duties which include answering and directing all calls, operating the fire alarm panel and emergency paging systems. Clearly directs emergency responders to fire scene or location of emergency. Interacts effectively with people under stressful circumstances and takes appropriate action, e.g. “Crisis Team” “Uncooperative Patients”, or “Mr. Muscle”, fire alarms, and hazardous material spills.
Public Safety Officer Job Responsibilities:
Conducts regular patrols of the hospital and grounds to ensure that all persons are protected from fires or unwanted visitors; interacts with various hospital staff and outside law enforcement agencies; observes and reports criminal behavior that may be occurring on the premises. Maintains a visible presence in the Emergency Department where various security assignments and security‑related functions will be performed under the direction of the Public Safety Manager of Lead Public Safety Officer. Responds to calls to assist with security and safety matters, helicopter landings, and emergency situations . Conduct regularly assigned fire drills, fire extinguisher inspections, and exterior lighting survey. Responsible for the hospital switchboard operation when needed which includes effective communication with the public, patients, physicians, and employees. Must be able to transfer calls to third parties and provide directions as needed to incoming calls. Must be customer friendly with a primary focused on customer satisfaction. Responsible for the proper operation of hospital fire alarm panel, emergency paging systems and ResusciTeam emergency call system. Responsible for paging overhead emergency announcements and give clear direction for responding fire brigade and/or emergency responders to fire and/or emergency location. Interacts with Putnam dispatch for response from local Police or Fire Departments during emergencies. Immediately reports any issues with the operation of the switchboard to the IT department, and Security Supervisor for quick response and resolution to all problems. Prepares and writes daily shift log of shift activities, writes Public Safety Incident Reports. Involved in the intake, return and storage of Lost and Found items for the hospital. Also responsible for the proper storage and maintenance of Lost and Found items in a Lost and Found Log and storage closet. Secures sealed Patient Valuable Envelopes in the Public Safety Department safe, and responsible for the maintaining correct completing of the PVEs and PVE Log of valuables. Performs patient and visitor searches for contraband or other dangerous items as requested. Monitors Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras for suspicious activity or investigations on the exterior and/or interior of the hospital. Enforce Hospital Access control through proper issuance of Employee, Contractor and Temporary badges, updated Temporary/Contractor badge out/return spreadsheet. Manufactures replacement Employee ID-Badges, and new Volunteer ID-Badges, using the badge making software program and ID-Badge making machine. Performs Key inventory checks, and issues keys ready for collection by employees, then files away the signed employee key agreement forms appropriately. Responds to emergencies with the coordination of crowd control, vehicle control, and, when required, hospital lockdown procedures. Receive Alarm notifications for motion detection sensors, burglary and property intrusions, contact the police for follow up, and if necessary, the offsite key holder and Facilities Management. Performs parking lot patrols and enforces parking policy and issued parking infringement notices for non-compliance, updates Parking violator spreadsheet. Inputs Employee/Volunteer/Physician vehicle details and parking sticker numbers into logs and ID-Badge system.
Public Safety Officer Education & Experience Requirements:
High school graduate or equivalent is required. Must possess a valid state of CT Security Officer License (Guard Card). Must complete within 30 days of employment, or verify current certification(s) in: (Certifications must also be maintained accordingly) A. Management. of Aggressive Behavior Training. B. OCAT-Pepper “Gel” Training. C. Hospital Fire Brigade. D. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training E. Lift and Assist F.
