Public Safety Officer (Non-Sworn) Somerville Housing Authority Somerville, MA 02145
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs non-law enforcement duties associated with the Somerville Housing Authority Community. This position may be full or part-time in nature.
RESPONSIBILITIES
(include, but are not limited to, the following):
- Proactively engage with community members and the activities of the community in a manner that is welcomed and builds trust.
- Perform various preventative safety, security, and service-related functions, including: access control, building checks, personal safety escorts, lockouts, parking enforcement, other resident service-related duties.
- Identify and communicate potential safety and security issues, such as lighting issues, faulty locks, missing public safety signage, hazardous weather-related conditions.
- Adhere to SHA Public Safety policies and regulations.
- Other duties, of the class, as assigned.
- The Public Safety Officer will patrol various SHA locations located in Somerville by vehicle and/or foot.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Be at least 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license with a safe driving history.
- Ability to successfully complete CPR and First Aid training.
- Pass a comprehensive background investigation.
- Pass a medical examination.
- Pass a drug screen.
- Demonstrate excellent people skills employing effective community service orientation techniques, ensuring positive and professional interactions are maintained with SHA community members.
- Ability to use or learn to use computer and office software in creation of reports.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to complete all reports required in a clear and precise manner
- Prior experience in Law Enforcement or Security fields preferred and may be given preference
SPECIAL WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
- Must be flexible and able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- May at times be mandated to work overtime.

SALARY:
