Job Summary:

The assistant/associate Director of Campus Security Operations will oversee and coordinate daily security operations to ensure the safety and well-being of students, faculty, staff and visitors. This role involves managing security personnel, developing and enforcing policies. The assistant/associate director of campus security operations will be responsible for managing and scheduling dispatchers and security officers for regular shifts, as well as athletic, social, and other special events. This position is responsible for life safety, security and office systems, and will serve as a backup for electronic security systems. In the absence of the associate vice president of campus safety and security, will assume responsibility and command of the department. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday evenings with additional responsibilities for special events, weekends, holidays, after hours response or emergencies. This position is part of the Administrator On-Call list as part of a rotating schedule. This position will be located on the Colby College campus. Operational Management:

Establish unit goals and objectives with a focus on continuous improvement; evaluate unit performance and refine approaches and processes as needed. With department leadership members, assist with the development, administration, and communication of policies, procedures, and standards. Make recommendations for future changes. Administrator on-call as part of a rotating schedule.

Personnel Management:

Supervise, train, and evaluate security staff, ensuring they meet performance standards and adhere to campus policies. Create, deliver, and document training sessions within the department and across campus as assigned. Schedule and coordinate staffing to ensure optimal coverage during all campus events and activities. Foster a culture of professionalism and inclusiveness.

Emergency Preparedness:

With the associate vice president of safety and security, assist in the development, planning and execution of emergency response plans, drills and training sessions. Act as a liaison with local law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services during incidents. Ensure all security staff are trained in first aid, CPR, and crisis intervention techniques.

Compliance and Reporting:

Review and approve incident reports reviewing documentation, daily logs and other documents for accuracy and compliance with Maine State Law, UCR, regulations of the Federal Crime Awareness and Campus Security Acts as applicable. Maintain compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, including the Clery Act, Title IX and ADA requirements. Monitor and report campus crimes statistics as required by law. Prepare and present detailed incident reports, risk assessments, and recommendations to senior leadership. Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

Position Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

Associate’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in security, law enforcement, or related field, including supervisory responsibilities. Campus security is a plus. CPR/First Aid experience desirable. CPR/First Aid certification will be provided. Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements.

Skills and Competencies:

Demonstrated ability to think critically and act logically under pressure, to evaluate critical situations, solve problems, and make decisions quickly and in emergency situations. Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in security technologies, including access control systems, video surveillance, and emergency notification systems. Proficient with a variety of technology and computer applications including Windows, Word Suite, Google Suite, and Workday. Knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to campus security. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, establish priorities and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community. While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the office space as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities. There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged personal computer use which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus. The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focus quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasks as well. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.
