About This Job Commerce Bank is seeking a commissioned law enforcement officer in Kansas City, MO, to join our security team in providing security for our downtown Kansas City campus, and at any of our branch locations located in the city limits of Kansas City, MO. The normal work schedule for this part-time position is M-F, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some flexibility depending on specific situations or circumstances. Essential Functions Provide a uniformed security presence, monitor for suspicious activity, and any potential threats to the safety and security of Commerce Bank, its employees, customers, and guests Routine foot patrol of [specific address of Commerce buildings/parking lot/structures] the “Downtown Kansas City Campus” or “Campus”, with particular attention to the Campus Downtown perimeter and access points to all buildings and garages Respond in an appropriate manner to emergency situations that occur on Campus, including intruders, trespassers, altercations and alarms Develop a working knowledge of the security video system to identify any safety or security concerns. Respond effectively to these situations and save video recordings to share with law enforcement officials as needed. Respond promptly to alarm activations, including severe weather, fire, and panic alarms. Investigate the cause of alarm events that occur on Campus and take appropriate action, to include sheltering or building evacuation. Coordinate with local police, fire, and medical personnel. Enforce access control protocols for the Campus to ensure that only authorized team members, customers, clients, guests, and contractors are allowed entry to restricted or sensitive areas Handle disturbances or conflicts using appropriate de-escalation techniques while always complying with applicable state and federal laws Work closely with the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), to address incidents occurring on Campus that may require police response and investigation Complete accurate reports of security activities and incidents, and submit documentation to the Physical Security & Safety team Complete any Commerce Bank required training . Enter work hours at the end of each shift in Workday. Assist with annual emergency drills in coordination with the Physical Security & Safety team Provide assistance to team members, customers, clients, and guests with any security or safety related concerns that occur on Campus Comply with all security policies and applicable laws related to firearms use, emergency procedures, and workplace conduct Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Familiarity with security technologies, including video surveillance systems (CCTV) and alarm systems (intrusion, fire, panic alarms) Ability to work the assignment as scheduled and allow for some flexibility as situations and circumstances arise Ability to remain calm and act appropriately in high-pressure or emergency situations Ability to stand, walk, patrol, and respond to emergencies for extended periods of time, and assist with evacuations or physical interventions as necessary Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities Inquisitive, agile, and strong team player with excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values Basic level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook Education & Experience Commissioned law enforcement officer with the Kansas City, MO Police Department required with commensurate training and qualifications to carry a firearm 2+ years of active law enforcement experience, with a strong understanding of security operations and emergency response required Experience in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques required •For individuals applying, assigned and/or hired to work in areas with pay transparency requirements, Commerce is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for some roles. This compensation range is for the Security Officer job and contemplates a wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to location, skill sets, education, relevant experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable differentials (geographic, bilingual, or shift) that could be associated with the position or where it is filled. At Commerce, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay is $75 per hour.
