Campus Safety Officer Position Available In Cheshire, New Hampshire

USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app Public Safety Officers patrol campus 24-hours a day, year-round, to provide emergency and other assistance to College students, faculty, staff and visitors while exercising sound judgement to respond to complex situations. Officers independently document and investigate campus incidents, periodically in collaboration with the Keene Police Department. Officers participate in the educational process by providing crime awareness programming on both a formal and informal basis. Officers conduct property checks and may cover the switchboard, emergency phones and dispatch. Officer schedules include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as determined by the needs of the College, and officers are expected to respond to requests from the College to return to duty in the event of a significant emergency. Other duties as assigned. All staff positions on campus support students and will be involved in student-focused activities.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Routine Duties Patrol College properties, providing routine assistance to students, faculty, staff, and visitors and conducting property checks. Other duties include parking enforcement, permitting, crowd and traffic control, and event coordination. Criminal Investigations Respond to a wide range of incidents including crimes in progress, disturbances, disputes, alcohol and drug violations, sexual assault, domestic violence, theft, missing persons, trespass, and other criminal matters. Conduct complete investigations for minor criminal investigations, and work in conjunction with sworn law enforcement officials when a serious crime has been committed. Collect and store physical evidence, modify access card privileges, review CCTV, or other technological data, and notify campus administrators when needed while maintaining an appropriate level of confidentiality. May be required to testify in conduct, criminal, and civil hearings, and attend meetings, hearings, and trainings outside of their normal work hours.

Communications:

In the absence of a designated dispatcher, provide dispatching services in the campus Communications Center. Direct calls from the College switchboard; answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service; monitor CCTV equipment; provide and limit access; monitor public safety radio traffic; monitor the E-911 notification system; and dispatch officers, residential life staff, maintenance staff, and other College and non-college officials. Maintain a direct line of contact with state and municipal first responders and serve as a central point of contact for the College. Provide emergency notification to the College community when a significant emergency or dangerous situation occurs. Law Enforcement Provide the primary response to campus reports of odors of marijuana. Investigate reports and intervene to stop the activity and identify the offenders. May enter residence hall rooms, conduct limited searches, seize controlled substances, and refer offenders to the Student Conduct Office. Responsible for the chain of custody of illegal substances and coordination with law enforcement for disposal. Policy Enforcement Investigate violations of College policies, including parking enforcement, access controls, noise complaints, alcohol violations, guest violations, prohibited items, unwanted persons, etc. Enforce no contact orders and provide safety escorts. Fires and Hazardous Conditions Serve as first responders to alarms, fires, chemical spills, and odors of smoke or gas, working closely with local and state fire officials in response to issues. Annually retain certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED and provide emergency medical treatment. Provide non-emergency medical transports to local medical facilities. Conduct fire safety drills, and observe and report fire code violations. Respond to incidents and accidents on campus that may lead to civil liability. Community Services Serve as mentors and role models to students and provide crime prevention education (including substance abuse, personal safety, dating violence, sexual misconduct, and other topics) and services to members of the College community. Works closely with other College departments as needed, including Title IX, Residential Life, Facilities, Custodial Services, Health & Wellness, and the Counseling Center to ensure a coordinated response to incidents. Encouraged to assume roles such as organization advisors and participate in community events that provide support to students. Every Public Safety Officer is a designated Campus Security Authority (CSA) as defined by the Clery Act. Other Duties Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicant must be 21 at time of employment. Two years’ of similar public safety work experience. Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and good driving history. Successfully pass a background review, including criminal history and driving history. Possess well developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to project self-assurance and certainty, project a positive first impression, react and cope with stressful situations, and evaluate a situation with common sense Demonstrated leadership, supervisory and organizational ability. Proven oral and written communication skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the general public Understand and demonstrate working knowledge of campus environment, relevant laws, safety and fire awareness. Must be computer proficient with the ability to learn various computer applications. Obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification. Successful applicant will be required to attend a 6-day live-in campus safety academy within the first year of hire. Must be willing to attend periodic training and meetings and work overtime Post-offer, pre-employment physical required. Preference will be given to candidates with in depth investigation experience of code violations and minor criminal incidents. Ability to write thorough reports. Ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Ability to work under pressure.
