CPNYC has successfully developed an innovative model, the only one of its kind in New York City, which co-locates a licensed mental health clinic and children’s centers in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and the South Bronx. Position Overview :

The Security Guard plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff in our after-school and summer camp program. Based at the entrance of the program site, the Security Guard is responsible for monitoring access, enforcing safety protocols, and responding to any security-related incidents or emergencies in a calm and professional manner. This position requires vigilance, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills, as the security guard will interact daily with children, caregivers, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in youth-focused environments and a strong commitment to child safety. Working closely with site leadership and program staff, the Security Guard supports the organization’s mission to provide a safe and nurturing space for all participants while ensuring compliance with agency policies and applicable city and state regulations. Essential Job Functions Ensure all employees, scholars, and guests are welcomed in a courteous and professional manner Monitor the entrance and exit of all individuals to ensure only authorized personnel, parents/guardians, and visitors enter the premises. Conduct routine patrols of indoor and outdoor areas to ensure a safe and secure environment for children and staff. Greet all guests in a professional and courteous manner; verify identification and maintain visitor logs in accordance with program protocol. Respond promptly and appropriately to security incidents, emergencies, or disturbances, and notify appropriate leadership and authorities when necessary. Support enforcement of program rules and safety policies; help de-escalate conflicts or situations involving children or unauthorized individuals. Monitor and secure doors, gates, and access points to prevent unauthorized entry during program hours. Collaborate with staff during dismissal and pick-up times to ensure the safe release of children to approved individuals. Complete daily security logs and incident reports accurately and in a timely manner. Report suspicious behavior, hazards, or maintenance issues to site leadership. Participate in emergency drills (fire, lockdown, etc.) and assist in executing safety protocols. Maintain a visible, calm, and professional presence to help foster a sense of safety and order throughout the program. Follow all NYC Department of Health, OCFS, and agency-specific regulations regarding child safety and supervision. Receive front desk calls, answer general inquires, and transfer incoming calls to respective staff member Accept and log all packages and deliveries and stored in designated area Other duties as assigned based on department and/or organizational need Required Knowledge, Skill and Experience Valid NYS security guard license and/or security guard training certificate Three + years of security experience. Demonstrated ability to coordinate, inspire, and motivate others High level of communication skills, both written and oral Experience working in an ethnically diverse community Availability to work with some flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events Strong interpersonal, team development and organizational skills Must be able to clear fingerprinting background check and clearance for working with children

COMPENSATION

Commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate. The hourly rate for this position is $17.00 – $20.00 per hour.
