Duties Description As a Safety and Security Officer 2, you would patrol and inspect State buildings, grounds, and equipment to monitor and ensure environmental health, to handle all safety and security issues, instruct employees and individuals about emergency fire and safety practices and procedures, and prevent the endangerment of patients and individuals with disabilities, employees, visitors, and property. You would be a working supervisor responsible for all the activities of a group of Safety and Security Officers 1, on an assigned shift in a facility. You would provide direction and guidance to Safety and Security Officers 1, including: training sessions about proper procedures, scheduling of duty assignments, and directly supervising and instructing in the handling of major incidents. The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Open to qualified employees of New York State Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the current Civil Service eligible list for the title;

Candidates must be permanent in the Safety and Security Officer 2 title and be eligible for lateral transfer.

OR Provisional Opportunity:

New York State employees who meet the following promotion qualifications may be provisionally appointed: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c service as a Safety and Security Officer 1. Candidates appointed provisionally must take the next scheduled Civil Service examination for this title and their score must be reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who do not pass the examination or achieve a reachable score may not be retained.

License Requirements:

At the time of appointment and as a condition for continued employment, you must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Conditional licenses are not acceptable.

Peace Officer Requirements:

Safety and Security Officers have peace officer status as authorized under Criminal Procedure Law Section 2.10 and Sections 7.25 and 13.25 of Mental Hygiene Law or Section 455 of Public Health Law. As such, they must meet the requirements for appointment to public office defined in Public Officers Law Section 3 (1) and for continued employment as required in Section 30. You must be eligible and maintain eligibility for full and unconditional participation in the Medicaid and Medicare programs. If you receive an appointment, your continued employment will depend on maintaining eligibility. Failure to do so may result in the termination of your appointment.
