Security Shift Supervisor 3.3 3.3 out of 5 stars 86 West 46th Street, New York, NY 10036 The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed more than 2 million visitors since 2012. The Mission of the Intrepid Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming, in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth. We are seeking a Security Shift Supervisor to direct and supervise personnel involved in establishing, promoting, and maintaining the Museum’s security and property protection programs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Enforcing operational procedures for fire prevention and firefighting, traffic control, guarding and patrolling physical property, orienting and monitoring of personnel involved with classified information, and investigating accidents and criminal acts. Helping to formulate and ensuring staff compliance with policies and coordination of activities of Protective Services staff with Museum staff during Museum activities. Conferring with representatives of local government to ensure cooperation and coordination of Museum activities with law enforcement and firefighting agencies. Preparing the payroll for all non-exempt security officers, tracking time off requests, and maintaining schedules. Carrying out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Museum’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Ensuring subordinates comply with all policies and procedures. Performing other related duties as assigned by management. The ideal candidates must have an Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training as a supervisor; or equivalent combination of education and five years experience in the security industry. Candidates are required to have completed the 8 Hour Security Pre-Assignment Certificate, the 16 Hour Security OJT Certificate, and to have a Security Officer License.
Additional requirements are:
an ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals is required; an ability to write routine reports and correspondence; either have or obtain at personal expense within six months of hiring an F-94 Public Assembly license; obtain within 1 year, at museum expense, a Fire Safety Director license; and an ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the Museum. FDNY Certificate of Fitness for F-90 Maintenance and Supervision of Interior Fire Alarms and Supervise Alarms Systems is a plus. Qualified candidates must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. An ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations is required. An ability to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings as well as overtime as necessary is also required.
