As a visible presence on-site, the Overnight Security Officer enforces safety protocols, responds to incidents, and ensures the facility remains secure and operational overnight.

What You’ll Be Doing Surveillance and Patrolling:

Conduct regular patrols of the interior and exterior of the property to deter and detect suspicious activity.

Guest and Staff Safety:

Respond promptly to security-related concerns from guests or staff. Maintain a professional presence and assist in managing conflict or disturbances with discretion and authority.

Access Control:

Ensure only authorized individuals enter the premises. Monitor entrances and exits, check guest credentials when necessary, and issue visitor passes or badges according to hotel policy.

Incident Response and Reporting:

Respond to emergency situations such as fire alarms, medical incidents, or suspicious behavior. Provide accurate and detailed documentation of incidents, including completing incident reports and logging security activity during the shift.

Collaboration:

Work closely with front desk, maintenance, and management teams to address concerns and support safe overnight operations. Assist other departments when needed, including escorting staff or guests and ensuring secure lock-up procedures.

Property Integrity:

Inspect doors, windows, stairwells, and restricted areas to ensure they are secure. Monitor and report maintenance or safety issues such as broken locks, lighting problems, or hazards.

Emergency Procedures:

Follow established safety protocols for handling emergencies, evacuations, or suspicious activity. Be knowledgeable of all emergency exits, procedures, and first aid protocols.

Customer Service:

While security is the main focus, the Overnight Security Officer is also expected to greet late-arriving guests, provide directions, and offer a sense of safety and hospitality.

Skills and Abilities:

High school diploma or equivalent required; prior security or law enforcement experience preferred Familiarity with security equipment and surveillance systems Strong communication skills and ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations Detail-oriented with strong observational skills and integrity Ability to walk and stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks such as climbing stairs and lifting up to 50 lbs Proficient in basic computer and incident reporting software Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently during overnight shifts

Working Conditions & Physical Effort:

This role requires working overnight hours, often alone or with minimal supervision. Physical demands include frequent walking, standing, and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Work may occur both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
