Transportation Driver:

Commercial Driver’s License. This is part-time role on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for 10 hours each day.

POSITION OBJECTION

Safe and timely operation of all Transportation vehicles which transport students, faculty, staff and materials between various points of the tri-college community and other designated locations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Drives a transportation department vehicle, safely transporting students, faculty, staff and materials between authorized locations:
– Bi College run: Bryn Mawr and Haverford

• Tri College run: Bryn Mawr, Haverford and Swarthmore
• Rental van/bus run: destination determined by rental assignment
• Bryn Mawr College Campus Shuttle
• Tri College Library Book Run
  Maintains records of ridership per run.

Enforces department regulations and adheres to all vehicle regulations of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania during the operation of their assigned vehicle.
Cleans vehicles at end of shift.
Performs minor maintenance and safety checks on vehicles.
Conducts daily safety checks on assigned vehicle. Submits documentation of said checks.
Maintains written log of special trips/runs.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned or directed.

SCOPE AND COMPLEXITY

• Follows established work routines; periodic checks for performance; questions substandard or unusual conditions or situations.
• Work is spot checked.
• Error may result in loss of time, money and may affect the reputation of the College; errors may affect the safety of the ridership.
• Internal and external contacts involving reporting or exchange of routine information with other drivers, supervisors, the Department of Public Safety personnel and customers in order to maintain scheduling and quality service.
• Drivers may have access to College credit cards to purchase fuel for vehicles.
• Frequent exposure to items such as loud noise, uncomfortable temperatures, physical exertion associated with driving resulting in drowsiness, stress etc.
• Ability to lift 10-20 lbs to load/unload or secure cargo with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Performs a highly visible task requiring ability to handle unpleasant passengers in a tactful manner.
• Ability to handle all road hazards without compromising the safety of the passengers.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

• Valid Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver’s License with airbrake and passenger endorsements is required.
• Basic math and writing skills are required to complete driving logs and calculate mileage.
• Ability to communicate efficiently with passengers which may include verbal, oral and listening.
• Ability to get on and off buses with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Vision sufficient to read printed materials.
• Excellent manual dexterity to handle dashboard controls.
• Must be mobile across campus which may include climbing stairs.
• Must be mobile between work station and various locations in work building and on campus.
