POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of Patrol Officer I or the Director of Safety & Security, the Patrol Officer II is responsible for protecting life and property within the Shipyard community. This employee is expected and required to act in accordance with laws (federal, state, or local), as well as the SPOA Covenants and By-Laws. This employee works in concert with a security team under the direction of the Director of Safety & Security. The primary responsibility will be to ensure that the general safety and welfare of owners and guests in the Shipyard community is monitored. This employee will support the security team in their pursuit of maintaining property values while ensuring safety and covenant compliance throughout the property.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supports the rest of the security department team in their efforts to uphold the POA Covenants, By-Laws, Access Policy, and patrol/gate orders.
- Must display a demeanor that promotes exemplary customer service.
- Must act in the Patrol Officer I or Gate Office role when directed.
- Follows the vision and mission for the security department team, and ensures comprehension and actions in accordance with same.
- Functions as a key member of the security team.
- Works with Patrol Officer I to maintain a training program. This includes ensuring that proper SLED, firearm, or other certifications are obtained and renewed as needed.
- Follows established policies related to emergency planning, wildlife control, traffic control, fire awareness, and all other acts relevant to ensuring preservation of life and good property condition.
- Ensures that vehicle and pedestrian access points to the community are maintained and secured at all times.
- Maintains necessary equipment for the security department as directed by Patrol Officer I or the Director of Safety & Security.
- Creates reports, attends court, and reports relevant information from any of these to the Patrol Officer I or the Director of Safety & Security as needed. Also conducts preliminary investigations as needed, and confers with local law enforcement as directed by Director of Safety & Security.
- Enforces all company rules and policies to ensure employee compliance.
- Works with owners, guests, and others to resolve issues or discuss concerns in the Director of Safety & Security’s absence.
- Performs routine checks of roadways, paths, structures, fence lines, etc. to ensure they are in good condition. Reports issues with same when applicable.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
COMPETENCIES
- Must be able to pass a rigorous background check.
- Must be able to hold a firearms license, and be qualified to operate a variety of weapons and/or other crowd control devices (batons, etc.).
- Conflict resolution skills are essential.
- Ability to work well in emergency situations, to include weather-related events and crowd control, in efforts to minimize business interruptions.
- Must exhibit a high level of skill related to problem solving and resource usage in a face paced environment.
- Strong organization skills, verbal and written communication skills, and proficiency at producing professional written correspondence are essential.
- Ability to speak in public, lead training classes, and administer tests (or otherwise measure competency) is required.
- Must be adept at making critical and objective decisions in a variety of situations.
- Ability to operate radar, radios, and other security-related equipment.
- Professional appearance is mandatory and must wear company-issued uniform.
- Grooming standards must be met.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- The Patrol Officer II (Bravo) should have a minimum of 2 years of experience in command-level law enforcement, police or military service (or educational equivalent). A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Current SLED level I-III (or other as required) certification is required. We will train to obtain these certifications.
- Must have knowledge of federal, state, and local laws. Must comprehend, and agree to act in accordance with, proper methods and procedures for using the power of arrest or other acts of restraint.
- Must have a thorough knowledge or safety standards related to police equipment operation and maintenance.
- Must complete a 90-day probationary period as outlined in the SPOA Employee Manual, and exhibit the ability to meet any goals/objectives set by the Director of Safety & Security.
