Security Specialist III:
Under the supervision of the Director of Public Safety, provides safety and security for the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, including on-campus and school supported activities. The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
Patrols the campus, including parking lot, grounds, buildings, and outside perimeters to ensure safety of students and employees, prevent crime, detect violations of the law, and protect property.
Develops and submits written safety and security reports.
Directs visitors and answers questions as necessary.
Transmits messages and alarms by electronic equipment in connection with safety prevention and protection programs.
Responds to complaints, reports of violations, and requests for assistance involving on-campus students and employees.
Serves as a first response to requests from students and employees concerning campus trespassers.
Following established SCGSAH security protocol, assists in gathering information for preliminary investigations of complaints, including alleged criminal acts. Documents findings and submits reports.
Responds to campus emergencies, providing assistance and directing traffic and/or personnel.
Liaisons with local law enforcement and emergency services personnel when necessary.
Documents incidents and submits any necessary reports for director’s review.
Participates in meetings, committees, programs, and other activities.
Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and experience in fire prevention, safety, or security activities.
Applicants indicating college credit or degree(s) on the application will be required to bring a copy of college transcript to the interview. A copy of the transcript may also be uploaded as an attachment to the application, if required by the hiring department or if desired by the applicant. Please note that some areas of the Agency may require an official, certified copy of the transcript prior to hiring or within a specific timeframe required by that area, after hiring. Failure to produce an official, certified transcript may result in not being hired or termination.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the practices and techniques of safety, security, and fire protection.
Ability to act quickly and intelligently in emergency situations.
Ability to investigate accidents, disturbances, and violations.
Ability to deal courteously and firmly with the employees and the general public.
