Compensation:
Competitive based on experience and region ($50-85/hour) Job Description KENTECH is seeking experienced Background Investigators to conduct federal security clearance investigations for the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As a Background Investigator, you will conduct thorough field investigations in accordance with Federal Investigative Standards (FIS) and National Training Standards (NTS) requirements. Key Responsibilities Conduct personal subject interviews, source interviews, and record checks in accordance with federal standards Perform thorough investigations covering employment, education, residence, references, and law enforcement records Develop comprehensive reports of investigation using high-impact writing style Verify and validate information obtained during investigations Identify and resolve discrepancies, derogatory information, and potential security concerns Meet strict deadlines for investigation completion while maintaining quality standards Travel within assigned geographic region to conduct in-person interviews and record checks Maintain strict confidentiality and security of all investigative materials Utilize secure electronic systems to submit reports and documentation Adhere to all applicable federal regulations, policies, and procedures
Qualifications Required:
Minimum 3 years of experience in one of the following areas: Federal background investigations Law enforcement investigations Military security/intelligence investigations Private investigation with focus on background screening National Training Standards (NTS)-trained background investigator High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred) Current or previous federal security clearance (ability to obtain T5 or HT clearance) Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn proprietary investigative software Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Preferred:
Completion of National Training Standards (NTS) compliant investigator training Prior experience conducting T2-T5 or equivalent federal background investigations Background in federal law enforcement, military security, or personnel security Previous experience with DHS, ICE, DOJ, DOD, or OPM investigations Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related field Knowledge of Federal Investigative Standards (FIS) Bilingual capabilities (especially Spanish)
