CBP Air Interdiction Agents (AIAs) are federal law enforcement officers who play a vital role in border security by conducting air patrols, surveillance, and interdiction operations. They utilize aircraft and specialized equipment to detect, track, and apprehend individuals and organizations involved in illegal activities, such as drug smuggling, human trafficking, and terrorism.
Airborne Law Enforcement Operations:
Conducting patrols, surveillance, and pursuit activities related to the interdiction of contraband and illegal activities.
Surveillance and Intelligence:
Monitoring and analyzing behavior patterns of suspects, gathering intelligence, and developing strategies for effective interdiction.
Interdiction and Apprehension:
Using aircraft and specialized equipment to intercept, apprehend, and disrupt threats to border security.
Coordination and Collaboration:
Working with other federal, state, local, and international law enforcement agencies to maximize enforcement efforts.
Operating Aircraft and Equipment:
Piloting various types of aircraft, including airplanes, helicopters, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and operating specialized surveillance equipment.

Operating aircraft in various conditions, including night, poor weather, and low altitudes.
Using Surveillance Systems:
Employing radar, night vision goggles, and other sensor systems to detect and track targets.
