Overview
The Corrosion Control Mechanic possesses a high degree of expertise in Corrosion related systems, tools, directives and components in the performance of corrosion repairs, treatment and prevention on aircraft. Applies comprehensive technical knowledge and experience to solve problems and provides technical assistance, guidance and instruction to employees in the Corrosion Control Mechanic classification and to others throughout the aviation team as required. May be required to perform Leadman du-ties when designated and authorized.
The Airframes Mechanic is directly accountable to Maintenance Control, Maintenance Supervisor with oversight from Work Center Leads.
Major Job Activities

Performs aircraft corrosion control to include washing, cleaning and corrosion detection. Removal of corrosion metal treatment and touch up painting and complete aircraft paint as re-quired. Assist in the preparation of the aircraft and/or components for complete repair Use schematics, drawings, charts and applicable publications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components using manufacturer’s manuals, service bulleting and applicable publications.

  • Identifies, treats corrosion and coats surfaces of aircraft and support equipment components, accessories and related equipment, with paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other materials, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices.

May be required to perform Leadman duties when designated and authorized. Required to handle hazardous materials in performance of as-signed duties. Classify and document corrosion in accordance with customer/company manuals.

  • Detect, identify remove and treat corrosion using approved tools, equipment and techniques.
  • Use hand and power tools consistent with applicable corrosion treatment and removal manuals and directives.
  • Perform aircraft painting touchups, in accordance with NAVAIR 01-1A-509-2, to include the application/removal of side number, model designator numbers, local command markings, preventative maintenance, special award insignia, designated pilot names, and painting necessary to accomplish the approved corrosion control plan.
  • Remove paint or other protective materials using approved tools, agents and techniques.
  • Coat surfaces or aircraft components, engines or aeronautical support and appropriate materials, using approved equipment.

Material & Equipment Directly Used
Work Orders in NALCOMIS/OOMA, Standard Navy Support Equipment, Lifts, Stands, Hoists.
Working Environment
The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical dis-comfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be ex-posed to electrical shock hazards. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
Physical Activities
This classification activity requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with shop/hangar/flight line maintenance activities to include bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions, etc. May be required to lift objects whose weight normally will not exceed 50 pounds. Special vision abilities required to perform this job are close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus
Qualifications
Education /

Certifications:

One-year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

  • Must have successfully completed approved course or training as required by Company, State/Local Govt, DOD, regulation/Instruction.
  • Personnel shall be qualified according to their field of expertise and the level of maintenance assigned, i.

e., “O” or “I” level.
Must possess or be able to obtain a secret clearance.
Must be a US citizen and completed high school or equivalent.
Will have experience writing with clarity and technical accuracy.
Must be able to medically qualify and wear a respirator when performing assigned duties

Experience:
  • Flight Line mechanics shall have three years’ experience within their specialty.

The last two years must have been as a practicing licensed FAA airframe and power plants mechanic; in the military; civil service (WG-7-10), or with a government aviation maintenance Contractor. Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment and prevention.

  • Must be customer service oriented and possess the ability to communicate professionally, courteously and respectfully.
  • Basic data entry in computer systems.
