Ground Support Equipment (GSEI) Mechanic Inspector is responsible for the diagnostics, repairs, and inspections of completed maintenance repairs for military light, medium, heavy wheeled and ground support equipment. Works along with team members, and sets the pace. Troubleshoots malfunctions and makes repairs to ground support equipment using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools. MAJOR JOB ACTIVITIES
+ GSE Inspector performs Technical Inspection on wheeled vehicles, trailers and power generation equipment. + Inspects and validates maintenance repairs and services completed on ground support and Wheeled equipment. + Inspects, tests and operates wheeled and power generation equipment for maintenance purposes. + Additional responsibilities include working with a variety of repair and test equipment including welders, torches, pressure testers and electrical testers to name a few. + Uses automated Logistics Information System to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, maintains wheeled, construction and grounding systems. + Performs other duties as assigned. + Practices good housekeeping, property accountability control and safety at all times.
WORKING ENVIROMENT
+ Work is generally conducted in a shop environment. However, duties may involve the conduct of work in the outdoors area with a potential exposure to extreme climatic condition. + Work requires stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolong sitting and occasional working in cramped and awkward position. + Frequent exposure to conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights. + A normal work week is 40 hours (5 days a week). + Must be willing to work additional hours when mission requires.
MATERIAL & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
+ Extensive use of basic shop equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, air tools, and lifting devices. + Steel Toe shoes are required. + Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required in certain areas while work is being conducted. Such PPE includes, but is not limited to:
Face Mask, head, foot, hand, vision and hearing protective devices. + Periodic use of computer systems and multi-function devices (MFD). + Face mask that covers the nose and mouth is required.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
+ Must be able to climb up and down ladders and stairs, as well as bend, twist, and squad for prolonged periods. + Must be able to pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds. + Function in conditions of inclement weather, extreme heat and cold, high/low humidity, blowing sand and dust, and working in confined spaces and at heights. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
+ High school diploma or equivalent. + Must be proficient in servicing, troubleshooting and repairing wheeled (military and commercial) and power generation. + Proficient in electrical troubleshooting and repair of ground support equipment such as mobile electric power plants and other self-propelled/non self-propelled equipment. + Must be familiar with the use of electronic technical manuals. + Must have the ability to acquire and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). + Must have a valid REAL ID State Driver’s License with no restrictions. Commercial Driver’s License preferred. + Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC). + Must be able to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship, such as a birth certificate or a U.S. Passport. + Must be able to maintain driving privileges aboard the Fort Bragg Installation. + Must be a U.S. Citizen.
EXPERIENCE
+ Must have at least four to six years of experience in heavy, medium, and light wheeled equipment, power generation and ground support maintenance or equivalent. + Experience as an inspector of military equipment preferred. + Working knowledge of GCSS-Army preferred. + Must have a comprehensive knowledge of supply and services, and transportation operations, as well as Army governing regulations, policies and procedures.
SKILLS:
+ Ability to inspect tactical, non-tactical, and commercial equipment. + Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and cooling systems and components on various ground support equipment, wheeled vehicles, power generation equipment and other small engine systems in accordance with appropriate procedures and publications. + Ability to analyze and interpret U.S. Army Technical Manuals with relation to vehicle maintenance and repair. + Ability to verify serviceability of equipment, determine the economic reparability of the item and determine the extent of maintenance effort and repair parts required to restore the item to the prescribed serviceable condition. + Possess knowledge of safety and environmental issues as they related to vehicle maintenance.
