Job Description

Fire Extinguisher Technician

Jacksonville, FL 32226 We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Fire Extinguisher Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for installing, servicing, inspecting, and repairing fire extinguishers, pre-engineered systems, emergency light systems, and other fire-fighting equipment. The role requires adherence to current NFPA codes, manufacturer’s requirements, and industry best practices to ensure accurate and efficient service. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Install fire extinguishers, pre-engineered systems, emergency light systems, and other fire-fighting equipment according to NFPA standards and manufacturer guidelines. Perform required hydro testing of extinguishers and cylinders to ensure they meet safety and performance standards. Conduct thorough inspections of fire extinguishers, including checking pressure, powder levels, inspection dates, extinguisher pin, powder in the hose, potential discharge, leaks, and proper installation. Verify and ensure compliance with NFPA codes during inspections and services. Supervise or perform service, inspection, and repair tasks for fire extinguishers and associated systems, including adding correct powder amounts, adjusting pressure, and updating labels and collars. Appropriately install, complete, and maintain inspection tags and reports for all serviced and inspected equipment. Update and manage records in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies. Provide professional and courteous service to clients, answering questions and offering advice on fire safety and equipment maintenance. Educate clients on properly using and maintaining their fire extinguishers and systems. Stay current with NFPA codes and industry standards to ensure all work performed is up-to-date and compliant. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment. Qualifications Education and Experience A high school diploma or equivalent and technical training or certification in fire protection systems are preferred. Minimum two years of experience in fire extinguisher servicing, inspection, and repair. Experience with pre-engineered systems and emergency light systems is a plus. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Relevant certifications (e.g., NICET, state-specific licenses) are preferred but not mandatory. Must have a GA, Portable Fire Extinguisher Permit for at least one year Other Qualifications Must have a current driver’s license and a driving record that meets company minimum requirements. Must be able to travel. Must pass a background check. Physical Demands & Work Environment This position requires working on-site at various client locations. The role involves exposure to different environments, including potentially hazardous areas, and requires adherence to all safety protocols. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds. This job requires specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The Work Environment includes exposure to weather and client processes. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
