Fire Alarm Submittal Specialist/Coordinator Location:
Greensboro, NC (In-office)
Pay Rate:
$19-$25/hr We are currently seeking a Fire Alarm Submittal Specialist/Coordinator. This is an in-house position focused on supporting the fire alarm designer by reviewing, tracking, and coordinating fire alarm plans, shop drawings, and material submittals. This role is critical to maintaining compliance with local jurisdictions and ensuring projects stay on schedule. The ideal candidate will have experience with TurboCAD or AutoCAD, strong organizational and communication skills, and a technical understanding of fire alarm system requirements. Previous experience in fire alarm system design, installation, or inspection is highly desirable, but certification is not required.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan Review Coordination:
Thoroughly examine fire alarm system plans to verify compliance with building codes (e.g., NFPA 72), fire safety codes, and local regulations. Record plan review requirements based on the city or county where each project is located. Submit plan reviews and track status through approval.
Drawing and Document Review:
Analyze shop drawings for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to project specifications. Assist in the preparation and revision of fire alarm plans using TurboCAD or AutoCAD software.
Material Submittal Management:
Review and evaluate material submittals (e.g., cut sheets, datasheets) for compliance with project requirements. Ensure all material specifications meet design intent and integration standards.
Project Tracking and Communication:
Track the approval status of plan reviews, noting the approving authority. Send approved plans and documents to customers for final confirmation and recordkeeping. Communicate with contractors, clients, and local authorities regarding plan review findings and compliance issues.
Designer Support:
Provide critical administrative and technical support to the
NICET IV
Designer. Help the designer stay on task and on schedule by proactively managing deadlines and deliverables.
Integration and Problem-Solving:
Verify proper integration of fire alarm systems with other building systems (e.g., HVAC, access control). Identify and document deficiencies and work towards timely solutions with the project team.
Qualifications and Skills:
Technical Proficiency:
Experience using TurboCAD or AutoCAD software. Ability to read and interpret fire alarm plans, shop drawings, and technical submittals.
Knowledge of Codes and Standards:
Familiarity with NFPA 72, local fire codes, and general fire protection system regulations is preferred.
Organizational Skills:
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records for multiple projects simultaneously.
Communication Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal teams, clients, and external reviewers.
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
Ability to identify issues within technical documentation and work collaboratively to resolve them.
Experience:
Prior experience in fire alarm system design, installation, plan review, or inspection is a plus. NICET certification is not required but is highly desirable.
