Yes Location CountyBroome Street Address44 Hawley Street CityBinghamton, NY StateNY Zip Code13901 Job Specifics Duties DescriptionUnder the direction of the Fire Protection Specialist 3, the incumbent will support the activities of the Fire and Life Safety Branch within the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. The incumbent will supervise the daily activities of assigned staff in the Fire and Life Safety Branch. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- May provide instruction on life safety code and fire prevention courses.
- Assists in developing and implementing fire safety policy and program development recommendations for State Agencies, college campuses, and others, including the review of college fire service courses, curriculums, and programs.
- Supervises life safety code and fire prevention inspection programs.
- Reviews inspection reports made by subordinates and supervises the preparation of formal departmental recommendations for remedial action, including legal action.
- Performs the more complex inspections and investigations and prepares reports.
- Obtains certification and performs the duties and responsibilities of a New York State Peace Officer.
- Performs fiscal, personnel, and administrative functions to support the States life safety code and fire protection programs.
- Prepares technical reports on fire reporting data, fire safety trends and developments, and changes in technologies.
- Interprets fire safety provisions for government officials and private agencies.
- May consult with architects, engineers, and facility managers to resolve fire safety deficiencies found by field staff.
- May assist in developing fire prevention and investigative strategies for local fire prevention planners and ethe community to ensure cooperation and coordination of State and local government programs.
- Assigns work, evaluates work performance, counsels’ staff, approves time off, trains staff, and participates in the interview and selection process.
- Supervises the NYS Fair Public Education Detail.
- Assists with monthly and quarterly reports as needed.
- Performs other duties and special projects as required.
- May represent the State Fire Administrator at meetings with local officials and at national, state, and local seminars, conferences, and workshops.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle.
- Significant travel required, approximately 60%, often overnight, in assigned geographic location is required.
Minimum QualificationsApplicants may be appointed if they are a current New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services employee with one year or more permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service as a Fire Protection Specialist 2 and are interested in reassignment.
