The Body Shop Estimator appraises vehicle damage to determine cost of repair for insurance claim settlements. Assists Body Shop Manager with administrative tasks involving collision estimates and work in process. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties/Responsibilities Examines damaged vehicles to determine the extent of structural, body, mechanical or interior damage. Estimates cost of labor and parts to repair or replace each damaged item. Reviews repair cost estimates with body shop manager or foreman. In conjunction with insurance providers, determines feasibility of repair versus replacement of parts, such as bumpers, fenders, and doors. Dispatch and maintain an organized workload as needed. Prepares insurance forms to indicate repair cost estimates and recommendations. Estimates cost of repainting, converting to special purposes, or customizing undamaged vehicles. Confirm delivery of parts and that invoices are correct. Follow the job throughout the entire process and keep customers updated throughout the process. Build customer relationships by treating all customers in a kind, courteous, and professional manner. Meet dealership’s standards for repair/order production. Required to fulfill continuing education requirements (Estimating Tool, ICAR Certification) Other tasks as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Strong computer & phone skills (Internet, MS Outlook) Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and ability to work within a fast-paced environment. Strong knowledge of electronic estimating software and ability to multi-task using multiple computer applications and multiple systems. Extensive knowledge of automobile parts and repair techniques. Thorough understanding of vehicle repair, parts costs, total loss classification, and fraud detection practices Understands basic insurance principles and how they apply to estimating decisions. Must have ample dexterity to bend, reach, stretch, sit, stand, type, and lift up to 50 pounds. Bi-lingual is a plus. Education and Experience One year certificate from college or technical school and one year collision experience preferred. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications a plus! I-CAR Certificate of Advanced Training preferred. Paint Manufacturer Training Must be able to pass a background check, drug screening, and Motor Vehicle Report.
